The Doral Academy Model UN (DAMUN) delegation began with modest roots, initially participating in only one or two local conferences, but always harboring grand ambitions. Over time, the team expanded significantly, competing throughout Florida and consistently earning accolades at various conferences. However, in 2020, the shift to Zoom for MUN conferences led to a dramatic decline in participation, reducing the team to just eight delegates. Despite this challenge, a new generation of passionate students joined, sparking exponential growth as the delegation swelled to nearly 40 members, encompassing both middle and high school students.Â
The DAMUN delegation is driven by a mission to empower young people, equipping them to become active global citizens. Through rigorous research on global issues and the development of meaningful solutions at conferences, DAMUN members are more than just students seeking to bolster their college applications. They are a dedicated group with a shared goal of making a difference in the world. After achieving success at some of the largest national and international conferences, earning both individual and delegation awards, the team recognized that the next step in their journey was to host their own conference.
DAMUN 1 was born from this vision, with the mission to provide a platform where young leaders can bring their diverse perspectives and identities to the table, collaborate, and discover innovative solutions to global challenges. Through honest dialogue and structured debate, DAMUN 1 aims to strengthen essential skills like critical thinking and effective communication, empowering participants to drive change within their communities and beyond.
