Atomic Theory
UNIT Objective: Describe the key features of Atomic Theory and how it's changed over time.
Notes packet, Slides Presentation
Atomic Structure
Objective:
Describe the structure of atoms including protons, neutrons, electrons and their properties
Describe what is meant by ions, isotopes and use and interpret isotopic notation.
Activities
Atomic Theory Basics notes
History of the Atomic Model
Objective: Describe how our understanding of atoms has changed over time in terms of key experiments, observations and the resulting models.
Activities
Atomic Model History Jigsaw Activity (experts get 1 model, home group puts them in order and match models to images)
Atomic Mass
Objectives:
Describe what is meant by atomic mass, determinant he quantity of subatomic particles given an isotopic notation and understand how weighted average atomic masses are calculated
Honors: Use data to calculate weighted average atomic masses.
The Bohr Model
Objectives:
Use and interpret Bohr models of the atom to determine subatomic particle quantities, electron configurations, and number of valence electrons.
Activity
Bohr Models Activity (get Bohr models, PEEA#, #n, electron configuration, sort by atomic number and chemical properties, make observations)
