YOU ARE HERE: ABOUT US HISTORY
Barangay Siocon is known for its abundance of seashells, the siok-siok and the con-con. It is one of the barangays in the outskirts of the City proper. This barangay is located along the coastal area and is the gateway to the island of Capitancillo. Both local and foreign tourists visited the island through the Barangay Siocon. It is six (6) or more kilometers from the City proper and can be reached either sea by using small boat, and from the land transportation by using tricycles or any kind of vehicles. It can be reached within forty five (45) minutes from Barangay proper to the City of Bogo.
The people in this barangay dreamed to have a secondary school so that their children will no longer walk for the total of 7.8 kilometers every day. Then, Barangay Siocon is given a great opportunity to have a complete basic education of the students from kinder, elementary to secondary. The dreams of the people in Barangay Siocon has granted with the help of the school site lot donor, Mr. Jose (Pepe) Balunan Lepiten.
Within this barangay, the secondary school rises – the Don Jose (Pepe) Lepiten National High School. It was established in the year 2019. It is situated on the top of the mountain of Barangay Siocon, Bogo City. The donated school site has an area of 5,000 square meters. It is a walking distant from the Barangay Siocon Multipurpose Hall.
Don Jose (Pepe) Lepiten National High School has started its journey with one (1) class section, 32 students - composed of 22 males and 10 females, and presently handled by a School Head, and two (2) competent teachers, both teacher I, who are very able to share their knowledge and competence in the different learning areas in order to achieve quality education and life-long learning on the learners. The class is temporarily held in the barangay covered court. The Department of Education - City of Bogo Division is coordinating with the LGU for the construction of the school building of the newly-opened schools.
As Don Jose (Pepe) Lepiten National High School continues its journey serving more students of the barangay, the school faculty together with the parents, barangay officials and stakeholders thereafter are vigilant to the students’ education and safety. Thus, the school strength is resilient to whatever possible disasters may occur.
Since Barangay Siocon is situated mostly in mountainous areas and along the coastal area, it is then susceptible to floods and landslides which makes the elements highly vulnerable. The uncertainty of future calamity at the onset of the rainy season and climate change should be anticipated with unforeseen event on known disaster/calamity prone areas to ensure a maximum safety and lesser effect to life and property to threatened barangay of the municipality.
Man-made disaster preparedness plan and programs are better than nothing but not knowing it will be anticipated and executed is vulnerable to a worst scenario.
ECONOMY POVERTY INDEX – most learners come from middle class families – mostly working parents while 61.67% of the total population of learners are 4Ps recipients.
GEOPHYSICAL – Don Jose (Pepe) Lepiten National High School has no classroom yet. It temporarily occupies the Barangay Siocon Covered Court.
