UTRGV Virtual Labs - STATA
1. Go to UTRGV VLabs
To Access STATA from home, you need to first connect to campus VPN using the Foriclient application before logging in to Virtual Labs. If you are employed by the university, you should be able to log in with the UTRGV credential. If not, you may need to request access to VPN from [UTRGV IT Access Request]. Then, you need to install VMware Horizon Client: Go to UTRGV VLabs and login to vLabs at [Virtual Lab] using your UTRGV username and password.
Note: STATA does not work with Ipad or Tablets.
If you purchase STATA, you don't need to install any of these programs.
2. Install VMware Horizon Client (Not Choose HTML!!) Please install VMware Horizon for accessing STATA through VLabs. If you access STATA through VMware Horizon HTML, you won't be able to save your work on your computer. Please execute the VMware Horizon Client.
Note: Do not choose "VMware Horizon HTML Access." Again, if you go with HTML, you will be able to access STATA but won't be able to save your work onto your computer
3. Log in to the VMware:
If you double the pretty pinky cloud icon, you can log in to the Vlabs with UTRGV credentials.
"I don't see the pink cloud icon!" or "My laptop is asking me the server": Don't worry! If you do not see the pink cloud, you can double click the empty button with a cross and type: "virtuallab.utrgv.edu"
4. Find STATA IC 16 (64-bit)
Once you log in, you have access to all computer programs the University has the license. Scroll down and find the STATA.
Please double-click the STATA icon.
You will have a separate window for STATA.
Welcome to STATA
STATA will ask you to check for updates.
Nope! Don't do it. You will waste your time. Check "Disable automatic update checking" and click "OK".
5. Now time to establish the Z drive access!
Z drive access allows you to save your work on your local computer!
On STATA, click the open icon (left upper corner) and look for Z drive under "This PC" folder.
If you don't see it, you have additional steps to follow!
If you are a MacBook user:
You need to check the preferences of VMware Horizon Client on your desktop. Please allow access.
If you are a PC user:
You need to check the settings of VMware Horizon Client. Please allow the sharing option.
And try again.
