Hi Dr. Shin, I am just sending you this email as a senior about to graduate this coming year as a letter of gratification. You have been a great professor over the past four years having you in Thermo 1, currently in Thermo 2 and EGR 460 has been great. You have made looking at thermodynamics problems that could be seen as super tricky to be relatively manageable. Linking the 460 class and the Thermo 2 I can often visually recognize problems and understand the quick formulas to solve them. In addition, you assign very helpful homework that often leads me to finding short-cut ways to solve problems. I know things turned for the worst the past year and I am unable to sit in the classroom with you, but you have always been readily accessible to talk, even if it's after a lab in 460. Furthermore, I like how you post videos so I can go back and rework problems. Overall, although Thermodynamics is a very difficult subject one might say. I just want you to know I thank you for making it as easy as possible to us. I wish you the best, and I hope one day I can come back and shake your hand farewell. As a student I just wanted you to know you are appreciated by your students.

Posting the PowerPoints in advance is very helpful. I able to review these prior to class and use them to take notes on. Being able to take notes on the printed PowerPoint is helpful for organization and time. It helps that formulas, processes, and variables are readdressed regularly throughout the content. Repeating what variables are denoting and what formulas are being used really helps us remember them. I find the format in which example problems are solved to be very engaging and helpful. Allowing a sufficient pause between topics is very helpful so students can finish writing notes and have a chance to think of and ask questions. Posting lecture videos is very appreciated both in the instance that a student may be late to or miss a lecture, but also to revisit for review later. Sometimes I miss things in my notes, but can go back to the video to fill the gap.

Very entuthiastic about his course content and very accessible throughout the semester, always willing to help students

Dr. Shin set up this lab in a way that allowed students to have a lot of freedom with the experiments. He didn't ever hover or try to over-explain anything, he treated us as adults and let us figure things out and learn on our own. Dr. Shin is a fantastic engineering professor and is clearly very knowledgeable on the courses he teaches.

He was very helpful when I asked for help either with the lab procedure or with the data analysis. He was also very respectful and kind. He had a great approach to COVID, both with requiring face shields, and being flexible with deadlines for those struggling.

Did a lot of example problems Put the slides on blackboard for us to print off, and put all of the recorded lectures on blackboard incase we missed a class or wanted to go back to use it for studying Explains everything very well

explained things well, the slides that were made were extremely helpful, and I will likely reference them for years, thank you for making them

He was always available for questions and he was very approachable. He explained everything in depth and handled online teaching well.
