Thank you for your interest in adopting one of our dogs! Our dogs are at the Donghae City Shelter in South Korea unless their profile specifically states that they are being fostered in the US. Some of our dogs have never experienced living indoors or have been on the street for a prolonged period of time. Other dogs are scared because they have never lived in a cold, crowded shelter before. Unfortunately, adoption chance for mixed breed, large breed, handicapped, and senior dogs is extremely low in Korea. Our mission is to find permanent homes in the US for these dogs.
Where can I see the available dogs?
You can find profiles of available dogs by going to "Adoptable Dogs" tab on the top of this website or by heading over to our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/donghaepaws).
What if I have questions about a dog?
Please feel free to send us an email at donghaepaws@gmail.com or send us a message on Facebook!
Could I do a meet and greet?
Unfortunately, no. Our dogs are located in South Korea, and they are not transported unless they have an adopter.
What are the adoption requirements?
- Adopters must be at least 24 years old
- Adopters must provide a valid ID with current address (e.g. driver’s license)
- Renters must have a written proof of permission to own dogs
- Adopters who live in condos or townhouses must have a copy of their condo/townhouse rules or regulations
What is the adoption procedure?
- Think it through one more time: Are you ready to commit time, energy and resources to a new dog? Are you ready to spend the next 10-15 years caring for the dog? Please keep in mind that our dogs are taking a long, stressful trip from South Korea in hopes of finding a loving, permanent family!
- Read profiles of our available dogs and choose potential candidates: Please feel free to send us an email at donghaepaws@gmail.com or send us a message on Facebook if you have questions about particular dogs.
- Submit an Adoption Application: Please submit a non-binding adoption application, available on our Facebook Page (www.facebook.com/donghaepaws) as detailed as possible. Your application will be carefully reviewed by HDP adoption committee to determine if there is a good match between the dog of interest and the potential adopter. If applicable, we will call your veterinarian to ensure that your previous and/or current pets have been well cared for.
- Schedule a phone interview: If HDP decides that you may be a good potential adopter, a volunteer will reach out to you to arrange a phone interview. This interview will be a brief 15-30 minute conversation to go over your adoption application and also to answer any questions you may have for us.
- Schedule a home visit: A HDP volunteer will visit your home to see where the dog will live and to answer any questions or concerns you may have.
- Welcome your new family: Once you are approved for adoption, a pick-up will be scheduled. This process may vary in length depending on where your dog is located (in the US or in Korea). But don’t worry – HDP will help to ensure a timely and successful meeting!
What is the adoption fee?
Adoption fee ranges from $350 to $500 depending on the dog’s size and breed. This fee is used to cover the overall expenses spent for the dog, including but not limited to, medical examination, vaccinations, custom and transportation charges, and spay/neuter surgery.
All adoption fees go directly to HDP and are used for our dogs only.
What do I need to bring when I pick up my new dog?
When you come to welcome your new pet, please bring the following:
- Name tag (must have the adopter’s phone number engraved)
- Collar
- Leash
- Adoption fee (check or cash only)
