Having witnessed many difficult and contentious divorce cases, Kier, who founded DwD in 2015, has been actively involved with the Alameda County Family Courts since 2012. Kier was dismayed to find that while people needed help, the hourly rates for attorneys in the SF Bay Area averaged $300 per hour plus thousands of dollars as a retainer. Kier worked with several different attorneys and the fees struck him as outrageous and unnecessary with no cap on what could be charged. Ultimately, Kier found the most beneficial assistance often did not come from hired attorneys, but from individuals who had recently gone through the process, and from having key observers at hearings to breakdown the hearing and strategize for the next one.
Kier’s recognition of the importance of having current information about how the system works and the lack of communicated knowledge inspired the founding of DwD to help others in Alameda County who are thinking of or going through a divorce. There are many things your attorney can't or won't tell you, and justice is rarely served in the Family Law sector. An understanding of what the divorce process entails, internal changes that may impact your case, and what worked and didn't work for others can make a significant difference in getting the outcome you desire.
DwD’s goal is to offer information that specifically relates to your case sourced from a conglomeration of individuals who have recently been through the process. DwD offers self-help information at no cost (funded by donations), personalized services at a fraction of the price of an attorney consultation, and with much greater benefits.
