People are trashing the planet and we need a way to clean it up. The fashion industry has a big impact because of how many clothes are produced every year. Many clothes end up in landfills after a few uses. The production of clothing is another problem with unsafe work conditions and poverty wages. And transportation of clothing creates greenhouse gas emissions. Because of the way the industry operates there is overproduction and underconsumption creating even more waste.
We want people to know that their actions can make a difference. That is the difference between someone who supports being eco-friendly and someone who is. We want you to know that by buying used or sustainable clothes and donating, you can make a difference.
Facts about clothing waste
Americans generate 16 millions tons of textile waste a year.
People consume 80 billion new pieces of clothing each year.
Around 5-10% of global greenhouse gas emissions are from the fashion industry.
On average clothes are worn 7 times before being thrown out.
At least 50% of the clothes in our wardrobes are not worn.
Our Survey
In the survey everyone agrees that an eco-friendly lifestyle is at least somewhat important. More people wish there were easier ways to be eco-friendly. We want to be able to help people with what they need and out of all the options most people answered they would want "Partnerships with local thrift stores or online resale platforms for easy resale of gently used items." The biggest problems generally are finding where to donate to, and not knowing enough about where to buy or how to upcycle. People also tend to not have time to research about where to donate. Those are problems I hope our company can help solve.
