Dominic Sargent's musical career began at the age of six when he took piano lessons and sang in the choir at Bangor Cathedral in Wales. He was Head Chorister of Tewkesbury Abbey School Choir, from where he won a Music Scholarship to Blundell's School in Devon, UK. At 17 he arranged and directed the music for his first musical production, Cabaret, and then won an Organ Scholarship to Trinity Hall, one of the oldest colleges in Cambridge.
At university he became known for his interpretations – in particular of Wagner - and theatre music. He went on to study conducting at Peabody Conservatory in the United States, becoming Frederik Prausnitz's teaching assistant, and graduating with a doctorate of musical arts.
In 1990 Dominic moved to Berlin to work in opera, music theatre and cabaret. He earned a reputation in the national press as a sensitive, lyrical accompanist and an exacting, inspirational conductor.
Dominic has traveled widely in Europe and Asia, teaching, coaching and performing. His compositions are heard regularly. He is known as a highly effective practitioner, and his advocacy of the arts has been called 'exceptional'. He is delighted to take on the role of Director of Music for ZMC, Zephyr's Music Conservatoire, in Hong Kong, from September 2017.
