western Kentucky, Dominique Highfil has enjoyed assembling and repairing devices, gadgets, and whatsits with ingenious improvisation since childhood. As a young adult, Highfil moved to Lexington, Kentucky in pursuit of not only her higher education degrees but to seek out mentors who would inspire her to create innovative and effective change.
During her career, Highfil has served as the Global Education & Development Manager at a private corporation in Lexington and credits this time with giving her a healthy appreciation for different pedagogical approaches. While serving in this role, Highfil honed her teaching and learning philosophy, as well as her greater commitment to continuous improvement and intercultural learning.
Over the course of Highfil's career, she also joined the Kentucky Community and Technical College System Office's Distance Education team in Versailles where she spent her time auditing courses using research evidence to create and validate rubrics and standards to ensure quality courses were delivered using best practices.
Today, Highfil is the resident guru for all things tech related at Lexington Theological Seminary. From instructional technology and communication, infrastructure technologies, to instructional design, Highfil provides leadership and guidance for the upkeep of their innovative, robust, and secure information technology environment.
Highfil holds a master’s degree in Instructional Systems Design, graduate certificate in distance education, B.A. in Psychology, and a CBA in Innovative Leadership. Her graduate work focused not only on gathering, analyzing, and using educational data in distance learning design, but also the role of education in a culturally diverse society and the role of technology in the practice of teaching.
With the rapid progression of AI technology in learning and development, Highfil is currently exploring the research of adaptive learning and AI tool-driven formative evaluation and assessment to enhance the student learning experience.
When Highfil isn’t using systematic methodology and instructional theory to create content for courses, or playing with the latest ed tech gadgets, you can find her traveling between her home and her family's ranch in western Kentucky, or visiting the family farm in the bootheel of southeast Missouri. Highfil is an avid amateur photographer and designer who enjoys spending time with her spouse, daughters, growing extended family, and animals of the happy Highfil hound house.
