Ship and Air Intergrated Warfare (SCMS)

The SAIW division serves as the organic lead systems integrator delivering Command, Control, Communication, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C5ISR) solutions to Navy, other DoD, and other federal agencies in response to shipboard and shore-based needs. Provides design, assembly, installation, and sustainment of C5ISR solutions, the installation of combat systems, and the integration of air systems into shipboard platforms. I support SAIW by acting as an On-Site Instalation Coordinator (OSIC). My responsiblities is being the designated lead responsible for managing, supervising, and executing technical installations directly at the project site as well as being a leasion between the Alteration Instaltion Team (AIT) and the AIT Manager. Below I have listed all of my periods of time spent during the internship and what I learned and preformed during those periods.

Summer 2026 - Puget Sound Naval Shipyard:

Technical Documentation and Compliance
- I interpreted and executed NAVSEA Standard Items, Local Standard Items, and Ship Alteration Installation Drawings (SIDs) to ensure all shipboard alterations strictly comply with engineering and quality standards.
Critical thinking and problem solving
- Successfully resolved critical Ship Installation Drawing (SID) and physical installation discrepancies by authoring Condition Found Reports (CFRs) to document technical non-conformances. Partnered closely with the Alteration Installation Team (AIT) and Planning Yard (PY) to develop actionable solutions, formally executing design and installation changes via Liaison Action Requests (LARs)
Acquisition and Integration
- I helped integrate complex physical and functional systems with the Naval Supervisory Authority (NSA) during various Navy modernization availability periods.
Quality Assurance
- I conducted quality assurance on AIT QA Workbook and installations by utilizing a Alteration Installation Team Manager’s Quality Assurance Program (AMQAP).
Team Leadership and supervision
- I provided oversight to cross-functional AIT, enforce OSHA/NAVSEA safety standards, and act as the primary operational liason between the AIT Lead and AIT Manager.
Installation and logistics coordination
- I managed critical installation timelines via the Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&M) and NSA’s Event Readiness View (ERV) to synchronize planned/completed work schedules while also setting up support services to maintain Schedules with both the NSA and AIT.
Oral and written communication
- I facilitated critical briefing with NSA, Ships Force, and AIT on compartment closeouts and System Opertaional Verification Test (SOVT).
