I love doing a variety of jobs in the Art Department. Obviously I have strengths and weaknesses, but I always try to improve my strengths and overcome my weaknesses. So go ahead, hit me with your best shot. I'll manage!
Here are some of my work achievements, so far:
Max Lozzer is a 10-page short comedy. I had an Art Department of 3 people and it was filmed on two locations. The biggest challenge was to make the Air BnB we filmed in look like two different apartments. With the use of distinct color palettes and closely working with the storyboards, I can confidentially say that we pulled it off.
Since we didn't have an additional person handling costumes, I also managed the costumes. We had four characters and five extras.
For this music video we were playing with lights, smoke and contrast.
The director's vision was minimalistic, and therefore we set up a black backdrop and a white backdrop. The instruments don't distract from what this music video is all about: the music.
I always try new things with projections. I'm fascinated by the variety of things you can achieve with them.
Strange World is a scifi-comedy webseries. I was the art director on the second episode, but since I was the director on the pilot episode, my PD April Rose Benedict and I created the look of the show together.
Since we only had 750$ budget for each episode, including EVERYTHING (crafty, transportation, locations, actors, etc.) we were on a very tight budget and tried to embrace this it.
A period piece, horror-fantasy short film that plays during the plague in Scotland... with 200$ budget! We used all of the resources we had and only bought and built what we had to. As an Art Director on this shoot I supervised the schedule and constructed the cage.
We built and decorated the set in one night.
It's a short film that follows a single mom through time as she records vlogs for her daughter. We see her in three different decades. That was a big challenge, since we had to completely change the set dec for each decade in just one hour each.
Therefore we had an Art Team consisting of 8 people, including the PD and me, which I coordinated on set.
I also helped choosing the right pieces during prop and set-dec shopping.
Costumes are definitely not my strength, but as I already mentioned, I try to overcome my weaknesses.
Oguzhan is the real name of the MMA fighter in this video and hence the name of the project. We tried to go with a very minimalist color approach. Neutral greys and blacks with red as accent color. His costume is supposed to look realistic for a training sequence, yet should show his strong physicality.
