1) Are Demos and other Episodic-based Mods accepted?
Absolutely. As long as the Demo, Act, Chapter, or other Episodic-based Mod was released during the year 2025, and contains a significant amount of 'new content', the Mod is perfectly eligible for submission.
2) What counts as "a significant amount of new content' " for a Demo or other Episodic-based Mod?
'New content' simply means that your new Episode/Chapter/Act/Demo of the Mod at least contains scenes not present within the last Episode/Chapter/Act/Demo. 'New content' does NOT allow new releases that act as a translation of the original Mod - if that translation is not from a Mod released within the year 2025. 'New content' also does NOT refer to simple remasters of a Mod not released within the year 2025. Remakes, however, ARE allowed if they add enough content to justify the new release.
3) My Mod contains copyrighted material / How can I avoid using copyrighted assets in my Mod?
Simply put: Always double check the source of your assets and make sure they allow private use of their assets. And no matter what, ALWAYS credit your source(s)!!!
4) I started working on my Mod before 2025, can I still submit?
Of course. Modding takes time, and all that matters is that the final release was in the year 2025.
5) To what level is AI Generated Content allowed?
Ideally none. AI Enhancement tools such as Waifu2X exist to upscale BGs and other art assets where needed, and that is OK. But any trace of AI Generated Content goes entirely against Rule 5. Generating AI assets, and later making them your own by editing them afterward still violates Rule 5. What matters is that the original concept was generated using AI, and therefore the asset is NOT allowed!
6) My Mod touches on a sensitive topic, at what point does it violate Rule 6?
Rule 6 specifically prohibits insensitivity toward sensitive subjects. In most cases, covering a sensitive topic is OK! However, intentionally writing the Mod in a way that shows no concern or consideration toward the topic at hand is an obvious no-go. Assuming you're writing an intentionally insensitive character in the Mod, you have to make it very clear within the Mod that said character does NOT directly reflect the Mod's intention to be insensitive toward the subject itself.
7) How will the competition work this time around?
Unlike the 2023 and 2024 Expos, the DDMX 2025 will not allow any and all Mods to submit themselves into a competition. Due to the strain it put on judges to play every single mod submitted, along with the minimal community involvement the previous method involved, we decided to change things up. Once the submission period closes in December, we will hold a set of polls for nominating Mods to be judged. You as a community will be given a range of different awards to be won, and with a list of each Mod submitted into the Expo. For each award, you - and the community as a whole - can vote on which top selection of Mods you believe would be most deserving of the award, and the judges will then play the Mods for themselves to decide which comes out on top!
