Thank you for using "Dog Scanner" ("the App"). Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect information when you use the App on iOS and Android.
1. Information We Collect
The App does not require account registration and we do not intentionally collect personally identifiable information for our own customer database. However, depending on how you use the App, the following information may be processed:
- Photos you capture with your camera or select from your photo library, which are sent to our AI processing backend solely to identify the dog breed and analyze its mixed-breed composition.
- Text messages you type into the "Ask the Vet AI" chat, which are sent to our AI provider to generate a reply about dog behavior, health, training, or nutrition.
- Subscription and purchase information (subscription status, product identifier, transaction identifier) handled by Apple App Store, Google Play, and RevenueCat to validate and restore your premium access.
- Locally stored app state, including your current photo, last identification, last breed-mix analysis, and chat history, which remain on your device using on-device storage.
- Basic, non-identifying device information such as device model, operating system version, and app version, used to diagnose crashes and improve stability.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use information only to provide and improve the App's features. Specifically, we use it to:
- Identify the dog breed in your photos and return a confidence score, summary, and list of key traits.
- Generate an interactive breed-mix breakdown for mixed-breed dogs and describe the contributing breeds.
- Power the "Ask the Vet AI" chat so you can ask questions about your dog and receive thoughtful, science-backed guidance.
- Unlock premium features such as unlimited identifications, unlimited vet AI chat, exclusive articles, and an ad-free experience for subscribers.
- Validate purchases, restore subscriptions across devices, and prevent fraudulent activity.
- Diagnose technical issues and continuously improve the reliability and performance of the App.
3. Third-Party Services
The App relies on the following third-party services to function. Each service has its own privacy policy that governs how it processes data:
- Expo and Expo Application Services, used as the development and build platform for the App.
- RevenueCat (react-native-purchases), used to manage subscriptions, entitlements, and purchase restoration.
- Apple App Store and Google Play, used to process all in-app purchases and recurring subscriptions.
- DeepSeek, used as the language model that powers the "Ask the Vet AI" chat.
- Google Gemini, used as the vision model that analyzes dog photos for breed identification and breed-mix estimation.
- Unsplash, used to deliver editorial illustrations inside the in-app articles library.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your information to advertisers or data brokers.
4. Data Storage
Photos and chat messages you submit are transmitted to our processing backend over an encrypted HTTPS connection and are used only to generate the response you requested. Subscription state and your local app preferences (current photo reference, last identification result, chat history) are stored on your device using secure on-device storage and are not synced to our servers. Subscription entitlements are stored by RevenueCat under an anonymous app user identifier tied to your device or platform account.
5. Data Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information processed through the App. All network traffic between the App and our backend is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS. Sensitive payment details are handled exclusively by Apple App Store and Google Play and never reach our servers. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your information, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure.
6. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through the App, please contact us so we can promptly delete it.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights regarding the information processed about you, including the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict its use, as well as the right to data portability and to withdraw consent. Because the App does not maintain user accounts, most of your data either lives on your device (where you can delete it by uninstalling the App or clearing chat history in-app) or is held by our third-party providers under their own controls. 8. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, the App's features, or applicable law. When we make material changes, we will update the "Effective Date" at the top of this document and, where appropriate, provide an in-app notice. Your continued use of the App after an updated Privacy Policy takes effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised terms.
