Roman makeup – A survey based on literary and archaeological sources - 2 hours - should be fine for older teens (16+) - To create an excellent fake, one needs to carefully study the original object first. Historical makeup is quite similar. Join me for a class dedicated to experimental archaeology of Roman color cosmetics. Let’s take a look at the aromatic ingredients and processing methods available to the people of the Aegean Sea region during Bronze Age. European Self-Help - Late Antiquity to 1400 CE: Maledictions, Curses, & Outlawry - 1.5 hours - 18 and up - Power inequalities were common in period. As a direct result, magical & ritual alternatives provided a solution, be it due to theft, loss of love, murder, or other crimes that were considered worthy of punishment. We will be reviewing a selection of them in this class. Medieval Flavors - 1 hour - Any age - To understand the flavors of medieval foods, you have to understand more than what can be found on a recipe (if you are lucky enough to have one from the period you are studying!). We’ll look at the overall flavor profiles that were common in various regions and time periods.
