What is Battle of the Books?

Battle of the Books, sponsored by the Wisconsin Educational Media & Technology Association (WEMTA), is a program designed to promote a love of reading in our students.  It encourages students to read a variety of books and remember the information about the plots, characters, and settings of the books.  We read twenty titles in preparation for the statewide trivia competition, which takes place online against teams from all over Wisconsin.

Who Can Join Battle of the Books?

Any student that attends DMS can join the Battle of the Books program at Dodgeville Middle School. Once students have signed up, the group meets during club times to prepare for the state-wide competition at the end of February.

What Happens at a Battle of the Books Meeting?

During our meetings, Ms. Spady (the DMS Librarian) facilitates review activities and discussions on the books from the list.  Students will work together in small groups to select which books will be discussed each week and to complete the review activities.

Why Should YOU Join Battle of the Books?

You get to meet other students and have fun with your friends while experiencing GREAT literature!  Our meetings and the competition take place during the school day, so you don't need to worry about transportation to and from school in order to participate.  Battle of the Books is the perfect club for YOU!  Stop in and see Ms. Spady in the DMS Library Media Center to find out more.
