Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how the Document Scanner app ("the app", "we", "us"), developed by Amit Gupta, handles your information. The app is free, has no ads, and is built so that your documents stay on your device.

In short:

• We do not collect, store, or sell any personal data.

• The app has no account, no sign-up, no ads, no analytics, and no tracking.

• Your scans, PDFs, and OCR text are saved only on your device.

• Text recognition (OCR) runs on your device. 

1. Information we collect

We do not collect any personal information. The app does not have its own servers, and nothing you scan, edit, or type is sent to us.

2. Data stored on your device

The app saves the following data locally, in its private storage on your phone (or on your SD card if you choose that in Settings):

• Photos you take with the camera or pick from your gallery, and the edited versions of those photos.

• Document titles, page order, edit settings, and the text extracted with OCR.

• Items in the Bin, which are deleted permanently after 30 days or when you empty the Bin.

• App settings, such as theme, App Lock, camera settings, and OCR language.

Other apps cannot read this data. We cannot access it. It is deleted when you delete it in the app or uninstall the app. PDFs you save with "Make PDF" are stored in the location you pick (for example, Downloads) and belong to you; they stay on your device after the app is uninstalled.

3. Permissions

• Camera – to scan documents and capture images for text recognition. Photos are used only inside the app.

• Photos and media – when you choose images from your gallery, Android's photo picker gives the app access only to the images you select.

• Biometrics/screen lock – used only if you turn on App Lock. Your fingerprint, face, PIN, pattern, or password is checked by Android; the app never sees or stores it.

• Internet – used only for the optional features listed in section 4.

• The app does not use your microphone, location, or contacts.

4. Features that use the internet

• OCR language packs. If you download an extra language pack, the app downloads the file from the public Tesseract OCR repository on GitHub (raw.githubusercontent.com). No document data is sent; only the file request is made. GitHub may record standard request information such as your IP address, under GitHub's privacy statement.

• Google ML Kit. Text recognition uses Google ML Kit, which runs on your device. Some recognition models are delivered through Google Play services. Your images and text are processed on the device and are not sent to Google. Google may collect limited device and usage information to keep ML Kit working, as described in Google's ML Kit terms and the Google Privacy Policy.

• Rating and feedback. If you rate the app, the Google Play in-app review sheet or the Play Store page opens; that is handled by Google. If you choose to send feedback, your own email app opens with a pre-filled message, and nothing is sent unless you send that email yourself. We use feedback emails only to reply to you and improve the app.

• Sharing and links. When you share a PDF or text, it goes to the app you choose (for example, WhatsApp or Gmail), and that app's privacy policy applies. The Instagram and YouTube links in the menu open those services.

5. Data sharing

We do not share, sell, or rent any data, because we do not collect any. Data leaves your device only when you choose to share or save it yourself.

6. Security

Your data is kept in the app's private storage, which Android protects from other apps. You can add more protection with App Lock, and you can password-protect PDFs before saving or sharing them.

7. Deleting your data

You can delete any document or OCR note in the app and empty the Bin at any time. Uninstalling the app removes all of its data from your device, including data on the SD card. Because we don't store any data, there is nothing for us to delete on our side.

8. Children's privacy

The app does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.

9. Changes to this policy

If we update this policy, we will post the new version on this page and change the effective date above.
