1. What DocTranslate does
DocTranslate is a Chrome extension that translates web page text into a language you choose and shows the translation next to the original text. It can also translate text you select on a page.
2. Information the extension handles
Text you ask to translate. When you click "Translate this page" or press the keyboard shortcut, the extension reads the text of the page's paragraphs, headings and list items and sends it to Google's translation service (translate.googleapis.com) to get the translation. When the "Selected text popup" setting is on and you select text, that selected text is sent the same way.
Your settings. The extension saves your chosen target language and your "Selected text popup" on/off choice using Chrome's extension storage. If you are signed in to Chrome with sync turned on, Chrome may sync these two settings across your devices.
Nothing is sent when you are not translating. The extension does not read or store the translations it receives, and it does not keep a copy of the text you translate.
3. Information we do not collect
We do not collect your name, email address, browsing history, location, passwords, payment details or any other personal information. We do not run a server, we have no user accounts, and we do not use analytics, tracking or advertising.
4. Third-party service
Translations are provided by Google's translation service. Text you translate is processed by Google under Google's own terms and privacy policy. Please do not translate sensitive or confidential text, such as passwords or private documents, with this extension. DocTranslate is an independent extension and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Google.
5. Why the extension needs access to web pages
The extension must run on the pages you choose to read so it can find the text to translate and show the result. It only acts when you ask it to: when you click "Translate this page", select text with the popup setting on, or use the shortcut (Alt + T). It does not monitor your activity on any site.
6. Data sharing and sale
We do not sell your data, and we do not transfer it to anyone other than the translation service described above, which is needed for the extension to work. We do not use your data for advertising, credit decisions or any purpose unrelated to translation.
7. Your choices
Click "Show original" to remove translations from a page.
Turn off "Selected text popup" so selected text is never sent.
Uninstall the extension at any time to remove its stored settings from your browser.
8. Children
DocTranslate is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
9. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
