THE SHORT VERSION
DocNest does not collect your data. There is no DocNest account, no sign-up, no server and no cloud sync. Documents and household information are encrypted and stored on your own device. Tally and Grow cannot see or recover them.
WHAT DOCNEST STORES ON YOUR DEVICE
DocNest stores only information you choose to add:
• Document details such as type, name, document number, issue and expiry dates, issuing country and authority, and notes
• Photos and PDFs attached to documents
• Family member names, photos and colours, and your household name
• Emergency information such as contact details, blood group and insurance notes
• Settings including theme, reminder times, quiet hours, app lock and watermark text
This information is stored in the app's private storage and encrypted at rest using AES-GCM. The encryption key is generated on the device and protected by the Android Keystore. It is not known to Tally and Grow and does not leave the device.
WHAT DOCNEST SENDS OFF YOUR DEVICE
DocNest does not transmit information you enter, scan or attach.
• Text recognition runs on-device. Document photographs are processed locally.
• DocNest contains no analytics, advertising, crash-reporting or tracking SDK.
• DocNest does not use the Android advertising ID.
• There is no DocNest server, account system or cloud database.
The app includes the Android INTERNET permission because it uses Google Play Billing and Google text-recognition libraries. DocNest does not use that permission to upload document or household information.
GOOGLE PLAY PURCHASES
DocNest Pro is an optional one-time purchase processed by Google Play Billing. Google, not Tally and Grow, processes payment card, billing-address and transaction information. DocNest receives only the purchase status needed to unlock or restore Pro. Google's processing is covered by the Google Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
PERMISSIONS AND SYSTEM FEATURES
Notifications: Used for expiry reminders. You can decline and continue using the vault without reminders.
Camera: DocNest opens Android's system camera when you choose to photograph a document. DocNest does not request broad or background camera access.
Biometric or device PIN: Used only when you enable the optional app lock.
Files and photos: Importing uses Android's system file picker, which gives DocNest access only to the file you choose. DocNest does not request broad photo-library or all-files access.
USER-INITIATED SHARING AND BACKUPS
Information leaves DocNest only when you deliberately use Android's share or file picker:
• Sharing a document or emergency card sends the selected copy to the app you choose.
• A document number is not included in a generated share. You may add a visible watermark.
• Exporting a backup creates a password-protected encrypted file and lets you choose where to save it.
• Sharing a backup sends that encrypted file to the destination you choose.
A temporary decrypted copy may exist in the app cache while an attachment is opened or shared. DocNest clears its temporary cache during normal app cleanup. Data handling after you share to another app is governed by that app's privacy policy.
RETENTION AND DELETION
Tally and Grow does not receive or retain DocNest vault data.
You can delete an individual document, delete household information, use Settings > Privacy > Delete all data, or uninstall DocNest. Uninstalling removes the app's private local data. Backup files that you exported remain wherever you saved them until you delete them.
CHILDREN
DocNest is intended for adults managing household documents. It is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone.
SECURITY
DocNest encrypts its local vault and supports an optional biometric or device-PIN lock. No system is perfect. A rooted or compromised device, malware, or an unlocked device in another person's possession may reduce these protections. Keep your device lock enabled and use a strong, unique password for exported backups. Tally and Grow cannot recover a forgotten backup password.
CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
If this policy changes, the date at the top will be updated and the revised policy will remain available at this address. Material changes will also be described in the app or its Google Play release notes.
