Do Something Real is a screen-time and focus app that lets you schedule times when your device locks and encourages a real-life activity instead. This policy explains what information the app accesses, why, and how it's handled.
If you have questions about this policy, contact us at: kizzy.ok99@gmail.com
The following is stored locally on your device (using Android's Room database and DataStore) and is not transmitted to us or any third party:
The lock schedules you create (labels, days/dates, start and end times)
Your selected real-life activity prompts
Completion history and streak data
App preferences (theme, time format, vibration, notification settings)
Uninstalling the app or clearing its storage permanently deletes this data from your device.
We use Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore) to check for app update notices. This involves a request to Firebase's servers that may include standard technical information such as your device's IP address and app version, handled according to Google's Firebase privacy terms. We do not store personal information about you in Firestore ourselves.
The app uses the following third-party services, each of which may collect information as described in their own privacy policies:
Google AdMob is used to show optional rewarded video ads (e.g., when you choose to watch an ad to unlock your device early). AdMob may collect advertising identifiers and device information to serve and measure ads. Where required by law (including in the EEA and UK), we request your consent for personalized advertising via Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) before any ads are shown. You can review or change this choice anytime in the app's Settings under "Ad and privacy settings." See Google's Ads privacy policy.
Google Play Billing is used to process optional in-app purchases (e.g., purchasing an unlock "key"). Payment information is handled entirely by Google Play; we do not receive or store your payment details. See Google Play's privacy terms.
We do not collect your name, email address, or other directly identifying information unless you voluntarily provide it to us (for example, by emailing us for support).
Display over other apps (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW)
Shows the lock screen on top of other apps during a scheduled lock window.
Accessibility Service
Detects when you try to leave an active lock screen (e.g., pressing Home) so the lock screen can be shown again. This service does not read screen content, other apps' data, or your keystrokes — it only observes which app is in the foreground.
Exact alarms (SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM)
Ensures lock windows start and end at the exact time you set.
Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS)
Used for the ongoing "lock active" status and optional pre-lock and unlock reminders.
Foreground service
Keeps lock enforcement running reliably while a lock window is active.
Vibration
Used for optional haptic reminders, if enabled.
Run at device startup (RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED)
Re-arms your schedules after your device restarts.
Internet
Required for ads, billing, update checks, and consent management described above.
You can review and revoke the Accessibility Service, overlay, and notification permissions at any time in your device's Settings. Revoking these permissions may prevent the app from enforcing your lock schedules correctly.
We use the information described above solely to:
Operate the app's core lock-scheduling functionality
Show optional rewarded ads and process optional purchases, if you choose to use them
Check for app update notices
Respond to support requests you send us
We do not sell your information. We do not use the Accessibility Service to collect, transmit, or sell any data about your device usage, browsing activity, or other apps.
We do not share personal information with third parties except:
With Google (AdMob, Play Billing, Firebase) as described in Section 1.3, to the extent necessary for those services to function
If required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users or the public
Schedule and activity data stored locally on your device remains until you delete it or uninstall the app. We do not maintain a server-side copy of this data.
Do Something Real is not directed at children under 13 (or the relevant minimum age in your region), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can address it.
Ad consent: You can review or withdraw consent for personalized ads anytime via Settings → "Ad and privacy settings."
Permissions: You can revoke Accessibility, overlay, or notification permissions anytime via your device's system Settings.
Local data: You can delete individual schedules in the app, or clear all app data via your device's Settings → Apps → Do Something Real → Storage.
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
