Since about a week ago, whenever we turn the TV off and on again, the Chromecast does not have audio. Restarting the Chromecast fixes the issue, but this is quickly becoming extremely bothersome.

- the problem started a couple of days ago. My partner insists it was sporadic at first, from my experience it has been a hard break (never dropped before, now always drops sound whenever the TV is turned off and on again).

- audio is broken across the entire chromecast, not a specific app. UI feedback is also gone.

- switching sound inputs/outputs on the TV has no effect.

On a side note, Google refers to this forum for support on the Chromecast. It feels like this is the wrong forum, also considering the labels I am forced to choose from (OS, cast source) have no bearing on the Chromecast dongle. If there is a better forum for support, please let me know, and I'll take my question there. If there isn't, why is the support forum set up this way. I would think Google can afford to set up a tailored support forum for such a popular device?

I have the same issue on 3 4K Chromecasts on 3 different TVs. The problem started during the last three days after the last update that added the enhanced "Live" channels menu. First TV to get the update started losing sound. Other two TVs both started having the same problem 1-2 days later when they received the update.

TV does have audio - I can navigate through the TV's factory installed menus and I hear audio there. When I go into the chromecast there is no audio at all, even in the UI. Restarting the chromecast is the only thing that resolves the issue. I did a factory reset, but the problem persists.

Same issue here. If I have audio, turn the TV off and immediately back on again I have no audio every time. Have verified that unplugging and replugging the Chromecast HDMI as well as restarting the Chromecast both fix the issue but this is a pain. I assume this is the result of a poor update?

no responses anywhere from google, but it appears to be a common issue popping up on multiple forums. one "fix" that seems to work is changing your sound setting from Dolby Vision back to HDR. I tried yesterday and so far I haven't had to restart.

Since a few months back I've had to restart my router everytime I want to cast. The chromecast is connected to the USB on my surround system, so it's not always on, but rather only when I want to use it. I have no idea what the problem might be. I've tried poking around in the router settings and factory reset the chromecast, but nothing has worked. But if I restart the router when the chromecast is on, everything works fine until I try using the chromecast again. Any ideas on what might cause this?

The last couple of months, I am having to constantly unplug the power and replug it back in to restart my Chromecast with Google TV (4K). The firmware is the most current version and I don't get any type of message. And my TV will even turn on when I hit the "Home" button on my remote, but then nothing comes up on the screen and I have to restart it. The same thing is happening on a completely different TV with a different Chromecast as well. I really like the interface and everything about it, but dang this is getting annoying. Sometimes I have to unplug/plug from the TV but that's a hassle to get to every time so I just unplug the power and plug it back in again. On that point, is there a way to restart the Chromecast using the remote if you don't have any output? I guess I should check the Google Home app the next time it happens as well.

Why on the new update there is apple airplay and nothing for chromecast for Android? Roku is a Linux based os and should have no issue in having connection with android, I honestly regret buying my Roku express and should have bought something else for the price I paid.

I don't mind an extra app or some extra clicks/keystrokes to achieve the above, but if Chromecast/Google Cast is important to you, may want to look into the Google Streaming devices or even the Onn Streaming player (Android TV with built-in Chromecast). It is not uncommon for users to have multiple streaming platforms so they can jump between the devices that provide them the features they need in a given situation.

Your Android device (brand/model unknown) may or may not have Miracast (mirroring) support (e.g. Most Samsung devices have it via SmartView), and those that dont can/may have it enabled/added via third party apps (e.g. Quick Settings from Simone Sestito - I highly recommend this app if your Android phone lacks built-in Miracast support).

I have an older Android Moto-Zplay and I have an Insignia USB-C to Hdmi adapter I bought from Best Buy awhile ago (open-box clearance) that works. ( -usb-c-to-hdmi-adapter-black/6473497.p?skuId=6473497)

I remember when I was initially purchasing these adapters for my phones that they weren't really "universal", and had to read through reviews to make sure they worked with my devices. I tend to have good luck with the Insignia connectors/adapters for various devices (kind of have to look on their site or the Best Buy site for info though since very little info on the packaging itself.)

Regarding the main topic of the thread, other than the original Chromecast dongles I don't think I've ever seen a video streaming device with Chromecast receiver functionality that isn't running official Android TV OS. For example streaming sticks running Amazon Fire TV OS don't have Chromecast receiver functionality event though Fire TV OS its a fork of regular Android. It makes me wonder that perhaps Google require video streaming devices manufacturers to use Android TV OS if they want to act as Chromecast receivers.

Samsung's tizen already has most of the streaming apps that I need (netflix, prime, spotify, youtube, etc.), I don't know much how else a chromecast would be useful? Maybe to cast a chrome browser tab, or some 3rd-party streaming app.

Virtually all isolation solutions I've seen of this nature combine them, rightly or wrongly. The assumption is that Orbi is a consumer-targeted device, and something like a Chromecast would never be used by a "guest", as it requires obvious interaction with other devices as well...the same reason a Chromecast would never work on a hotel TV, for instance. If you're using it at a business, there may be solutions other than Orbi that would be more optimal for your use case...don't have enough information to speak to that, but I'd consider it very unlikely the two will ever be split.

May work for some. That was one of the first things that I tried. Personally I could never get that mode it working properly. I don't have any notes on what the issues were but it didn't solve my problem.

Thanks alg42. Did you mean : the Orbi should be in guest mode, with "allow guests to see each other and access my local network" ? Have just tried that and, of course, it works : the guests can cast to the Chromecast (without having to use the Chromecast's own "guest access"). But then these guests would have access to our local network too... So I'll have to figure out how to implement the solution you mentioned with your Ubiquiti router.

By the way : the Chromecast's guest mode is quite useless for us : it only works with Android apps that have the Chromecast "button". So you can't cast the screen of your Android device, let alone a tab of Chrome on your pc or the desktop of your computer.

Since about a week i'm having serious issues with casting. My chromecast appears to be connected to my access point and shows up in the chromecast app but I can't cast anything without resetting my router. After resetting my router casting works again... for a couple of hours at least. Any idea what's wrong? I haven't changed any settings in my router and the chromecast still has an ip-address according to my router's dhcp server.

Supported regions

Netflix is available on select Chromecast devices in all regions where the device and Netflix service is available. For help getting started with your Chromecast and connecting it to your TV and Wi-Fi network, see support.google.com/chromecast.

I have been using a Chromecast version 2 and a version 1 for months to cast from my My Cloud using the mobile android app, it has now stopped working with an error being displayed on the screen that I cast to, error 502. I have cleared the cache of google services, mycloud app, chromecast app and it still happens. I have rebooted the mycloud, my router etc etc etc. I have reset the chromecasts, reset wifi etc etc.

Yes tried the above, nothing works. Lots of people are posting similar issues on the Google chromecast support page with different casting apps so at this stage it looks like a google issue rather than a WD issue

And, consider yourself fortunate you had this capability at all, because the iOS My Cloud app can not do these tricks, but I have other iOS apps that CAN do this when the My Cloud NAS acts as a Windows Network share.

I recall having trouble casting to the Chromecast a week or so ago, I gave up, and used another app and device. Like I said, I find it to be flakey at times, and find backup devices to be handy. I actually hardly ever use the Chromecast, as I have better alternatives.

Casting Brave browser is similar to casting Google Chrome. The only difference is we have to enable the extension that does the job. Follow the given steps to enable Media Router in Brave that lets a user Cast to a different device.

I know there are threads addressing Chromecast issues, but I have tried all of the suggestions in those threads and can't seem to get mine working with the UTM. My HP printer, cell phone, and Mac Book all pick up wifi just fine, but Chromecast gives me a few different errors like: "Chromecast is connected to Wifi, but not to the internet," and sometimes it won't even connect to the wifi based on what kind of settings I am messing around with.
