#do_exhibit is a relay project that builds on the Dohyeon Eom’s “STAY HOME: DO EXHIBIT(S)!” exhibition, which invites people to create their own exhibits in their own spaces and share the works on social media.
The unexpected pandemic which started in 2020 and continuing to these days, required everybody’s sacrifices including that of artists. In many countries, the government's stay-at-home suggestion became an order and then turned into a confinement. This global crisis is especially harsh for artists, because almost all of their creative working spaces and outlets are shut down, postponed or cancelled for indefinite periods. Some had to put aside their professions for the time being. The Involuntary isolation and cut-off from the public provoked ‘doubt’ or ‘existential anxiety’ for some artists.
STAY HOME: DO EXHIBIT(S)! is a photo installation project in Seoul that presents the series of self-exhibits by Dohyeon Eom during her confinement in France. From March 17 to May 11, 2020, the artist organized ephemeral exhibits with her archival photographs in her apartment in the Parisian suburb, St-Denis. The documentation of this photo-installation series is entitled, A Retrospective 2011-2020.
A project initially created for self-amusement by the locked-down artist, developed into an artwork, an exhibit, and a means of communication. This exhibition is a message to her fellow artists, saying that she is still active as an artist even in the time of struggle, also a calling for the contemporary artists and art lovers to come together in solidarity to enjoy creative works through lively communication.
The STAY HOME: DO EXHIBIT(S)! will be held in GonganSeoul at Chungmu-ro, Seoul from June 11 to June 25, 2021.
