I'm the Charles A. Dana Professor of Mathematics at St. Lawrence University, a small liberal arts college in northern New York. I received my PhD from Boston University in 2005 working under Robert L. Devaney in Complex Dynamics.
I have taught at St. Lawrence University since 2009. In the spring of 2025, I was honored by the senior class as the Owen D. Young Outstanding Faculty Member and that fall I was awarded the Calvin Keene award, which is award "to a faculty member in recognition of high standards of personal scholarship, effective teaching and moral concerns by which Dr. Keene has conducted his personal and professional career."
My current research spans a few mathematical areas:
Complex Dynamics
Text Mining and Stylometry - Principally interested in addressing questions of authorship
Popular Culture uses of Mathematics - Specifically, uses of "advanced" mathematics in early 20th century pulp publications
Mathematics Pedagogy
Other Stuff:
I enjoy teaching, running, playing Dungeons & Dragons, listening to metal/ska/punk, Transformers, and thinking about cats
I (currently) have 20 tattoos, all mathematically themed
