In 1942 , Alobo was then Sitio Pinaglabanan of Barangay Inarado. After the world war 11, residents petitioned the Municipal Mayor of Daraga for its creation of subsequently it was and approve it was granted and approve by Cogress. “Alobo” comes the word “alob” meaning “ihaw” from the common cooking preparation used for the abundant fish caught in the rice fields. Letter “o” was also affixed to the term for a better sound. Post office, ricemill (2) shallow well (6) deep well (4) and spring (6).

More than half of the households are employed, while agriculture centers in rice production. Household income averages P2,000 monthly with sizeable spread of households through different income levels. Less than half of the households are natives of the barangay, with migrants from throughout Bicol having moved -in for numerous reasons. Easily accessible by road, households use the local market almost daily and neighboring markets as well. All community facilities exist in Bagumbayan such as; learning center, barangay health center, multi – purpose pavement, concrete road (3,900 sqm.) springs (2), day care centers (2) and concrete line canal (2 1/2 km). Services and facilities exists in the barangay such as public elementary school and pre-school, barangay hall, barangay health center, multi-purpose pavement, piped water and electricity, a restaurant and a 100 meter concrete barangay road at Purok 4. This barangay is a source of sand gravel.
Bañadero is 5.26 kilometers north- northeast of the poblacion and bounded on the north by Mi-isi, busay in the south, Matnog in the east and Budiao in the west. It is divided into four puroks and a population of 1,496 comprising 291 households. Accessible by dirt road, household trips to the local market 1-3 times a week. Unemployment, water supply, farm to market road, health and sanitation are felt to be in need of solution and improvement.
During the Spanish time the area was called by residents “pinangsuhayan” meaning crossroad to the town of Guinobatan and Cagsawa. Later, it was named BASCARAN in honor of Lt. Bascaran of the US Army who became an overseer of the area and pioneer teacher of reading and writing in English and later it’s own cabeza de barangay.
Bigao is located 17.65 kilometers south-southwest of the poblacion, in the southern reaches of the municipality. It has a population of 982 and the two major economic activites are agriculture and cottage industry in about 2.94 sq. km.
Agricultural activities center around corn, copra, swine and poultry. Household income level average is less than P 1,250 monthly even though almost all household are engaged in some aspect of cottage industry process ( sinamay weaving, handicraft making). Although accessible by road, the distance from the poblacion limits household market trips to 1-2 times weekly to the local market. There is no electricity in Bigao, the transport system is inadequate and the proximity to market and basic health services is a hindrance.
The name of the barangay is derived from a grass locally called “Bigao” which abounds in the area.
This urban barangay is on the other northeast portion of the urbanized area of the municipality with a population of 5.242 and a land area of 0.24 sq. km. Ten percent of the households are squatters along the river which runs through barangay. The major economic activities of the residents are farming (rice), home industry, hollow block and tile making. Households use cottage industry as an imcome supplement, setting an average household income of P1,500 monthly. Less than half of the households are native of the barangay (an indicator of urbanization) with most coming from locations throughout the region. The area is easily accessible by road with daily movement by households to the local market and weekly use of neighboring markets. Though services and facilities exist in Binitayan, improvement in sanitation, health services, recreation facilities and fuel sources are not met.
During the American occupation, Binitayan was just a sitio of Barangay Tagas, It came to be known as Binitayan when a young man hanged himself in this place when jilted by his lover in favor nof an American offcer (Phil. Historical Com.) Binitayan meaning a palce where hanging took place from then local word “bitay”- to hang.
Bongalon is 2.85 kilometers northwest of the poblacion, and is accessible by a provincial road which originates from the national road to Camalig. The land area is 0.71 sq. km. The population is 836 to a total of 181 households and the major economic is agriculture (rice, copra, rootcrops and livestock). Service facilities include: an elementary school, barangay health center, barangay hall, multi-purpose pavement, barangay road (150 m.), one functional deep well, barangay outpost and two waiting sheds. Residents felt the need for improvement in water, roads electricity, sanitation and public transportation.
Bongalon was coined from the word “bunga” meaning fruit.
This barangay is 7.15 kilometers northwest of the poblacion and accessible by provincial road from the national road to Camalig. It has a total land area of 2.88 sq km. The population is 1,479 with 289 household and economic activities occurring are farming, swine and poultry raising, and home industry. This barangay is 7.85 kilometer northwest of the poblacion in the central portion of the municipality. The land area is 1.46 sq. km. It has a population of 925 in 191 households and the economic activities occurring farming ( rice and copra). Livestock and poultry raising and home industry (anahaw as raw material). Average household monthly income P1,250, portion is derived from cottage industry. Household to market trips average 1-2 trips weekly and once a week to a neighboring market. Facilities available are elementary school, barangay multi-purpose hall, multi- purpose pavement, deep wells, barangay outpost, waiting sheds, bridge, 25 meters concrete barangay road and 12 streetlights. Burgos became a barangay in 1921 thru the efforts of Municipal Councilor Lucio Lucilla which formally separated it from Gapo. Its name came from a tree called “bogus” and eventually evolved the sound of Burgos.
Busay is located 3.05 kilometer northwest of the poblacion along the national road to Camalig with a total area of 2.11 sq. km. The major economic activities for its 1,783 residents are cottage industry and farming ( rice, vegetable, and rootcrops). Most households engage in some form of cottage industry and the average income households is P1,250 a month. Average household to market movement 2-3 times a week at the local market and twice to a neighboring market. All services and facilities exists in some form and those are: Five waiting sheds, two concrete barangay road with a length of 50 meters each, barangay outposts, seven deep wells and one shallow well, and 80 meter river dike, 46 streetlights, multi-purpose pavements, barangay health center with ten Barangay Health Aides ( BHA’s), day care center, three (3) restaurants namely: Cagsawa 1814, Balai Balai and Cocoy’s and a soon to open gasoline station. It is the place of the famous Cagsawa Ruins & Resort and National Museum.
The name of the place means waterfall.
Canarom is located approximately 15 kilometers southwest of the poblacion and can be reached via San Ramon, Maopi or Anislag. It is one of the nine remote barangays and has a population of 472 and comprising 101 households. The land area is 2.45 sq. km. Though accessible by road, and public transportation can be had daily, the road is poor quality. Major economic activities are farming, copra production, and weaving. Most household are active in some aspect of cottage industry and the household income average P 1,250 monthly. Facilities present are: elementary school – multi-grade, barangay hall, three multi- purpose pavement, 200 meters concrete barangay road, two waiting sheds, day care center, deep well, barangay stage and outpost. Canarom is lacking in many of the basic services and facilities due to its location and those that exist are often felt to be in need of improvement.
The barangay is mountainous, bordered by the Cagnanaga (northeast-northwest) and Abungan rivers ( southeast-southwest) and spreads to about 400 hectares. The name of the barangay connotes creeks and rivers from the local dialect “cana” and “rom”.

This barangay was originally known as Sitio Tagbaka Kiwalo and the name GABAWAN was derived from the first letter of the first name of the seven granddaughters of the first set of the area.

It has a population of 518 with 102 households, a land area of 1.77 sq.km. devoted to agriculture ( copra) and cottage industry ( sinamay weaving). Services and facilities existing considered by residents inadequate are sanitation and health services, water, electricity and recreation facilities to meet the need of the area.
The barangay is directly south of the market and primarily a residential area experiencing the initial stage of commercial activity growth. It has a population of 1,676 with 292 households, a land area of 0.18 sq. Km. and the major economic activities are private and public employment, business, professionals, laborers, and cottage industry. Income level range from P1,250 to over P 8,000 monthly per average. Household usually use the market facilities daily due to their proximity, and that of that neighbouring market. Close to half of the households are natives to the area, the remainder originating from areas throughout the country. All services and facilities are centrally available in this area. Barangay Ilawod(53-2) was once a part of the barangay Poblacion, the other one is Market Area (52-1). It was divided thru Proclamation 1081 and PD 86.
Inarado is located 8.35 kilometers southwest of the Poblacion along the border of Camalig and accessible by national road. It has a land area of 6.80 sq. km. Households average 1-3 trips weekly to the local market and twice to the neighboring market facilities. The major economic activities of its 1532 residents in 336 households are agriculture (rice, corn, copra, vegetables, and other crops) and cottage industry. Household’s averageP1250 monthly income. Kidaco is 4.60 kilometers of the west poblacion via San Roque or 4.25 kilometers via Bongalon. It has a total land area of 1.14 sq. km. and a population of 866 with 175 households with agriculture (rice, copra) and cottage industry (sinamay weaving and handicrafts) as major economic activities. Three-forths of the households engage in cottage industry as income supplement. The average monthly income is P1,250. Households to market movement are 1-2 weekly to the local market with the same frequency per households to neighboring markets. Facilities available are day care center, multi-purpose pavement, health center, barangay hall, barangay roads (310 meters, concrete and asphalt) and deep wells. All basic services and facilities are inadequate and in need of improvement. The Kidaco is derived from the famous faith healer of the place named DACO.
Kilicao is located 2.47 kilometers north of the Poblacion along the border of Legazpi city. It is on the outer edge of the urbanized area and experiencing growth due to its location. It has a total land area of 3.79 sq. km. and a population of 3,055 and 578 households and agriculture ( palay, copra, vegetable) and cottage industry ( abaca products) is the main source of income which average 2-3 times weekly at the same frequency to the neighboring markets. All services and facilities are in existence but needs improvement and grading. Facilities available are: elementary school, barangay health center and hall, day care center, multi- purpose pavement, mini-park, shallow and deep wells and springs. Kilicao comes from the word “linicauan” meaning spared from the mudflows spewed bythe 1814 eruption of Mayon Volcano.
This urban barangay occupies the southwest portion of the urbanized area of the municipality with the total land area of 0.20 sq.km. and has a population of1861 residents and 348 households due to its location, economic activities center around business and employment as well as cottage industry. Income levels are considerably higher in this area ranging from P1,250 to 8,000 monthly. Over half of the households use the local market daily and in 1-3 times weekly in the neighboring markets. All services and facilities are available in Kimantong but water and sanitation are in need of improvement. Located here is the panoramic Kimantong Skydrive abaca manufacturers and exporters and the TV station GMA12 Kimantong was named after the pioneer landowner of the area called “Mantong”.
This barangay is located 11.85 km. south-southwest the Poblacion along the Camalig boundary. It has a total land area of 0.76 sq. km. with a population of 446 and 106 households and the major economic activities are agriculture and cottage industry. Main agricultural product is copra, but others that are productive include rice, corn rootcrops, vegetable, swine and poultry. Some households use cottage industry (sinamay weaving and crocheting bags) are income supplement and the average monthly income is P1,250. Households use the local market 1-2 time a week and many farmers market their produce nearby Del Rosario, Camalig. And somewhat remote barangay, services and facilities are in need of improvement. Among the facilities available in the barangay are elementary school, barangay health center, shallow and deep wells and roads ( 112 meters concrete, 1,633 meters gravel) Services of electricity is yet to be established and public transportation is in need of improvement. Kinawitan is a local term meaning a place where somebody was hanged.
Kiwalo is 1.85 kilometer south of the Poblacion accessible by a barangay dirt road for the last kilometre. It has a land total area of 0.55 sq.km. The population is 2,024 with a total land area of the 5.81 sq.km. engaged in the economic activities of agriculture (upland rice, copra, corn, vegetables, swine and poultry) and cottage industry. Most households supplement income with cottage industry activities and the monthly income is P1,250. Households use to the local market facilities 1-3 times a week and once to the neighboring market. Concerning services and facilities they have complete elementary school, shallow and deep wells, day care center, national high school, foot bridges, barangay health centerand have roads, public transportation, and electricity needs improvement. This barangay can be reach thru winding and ascending rough roads and if traversed on foot is “makalangkag” (long, weary hike) and was shortened to Lacag.
Mabini is located south-southwest of the poblacion about9.25 kilometers by road, the last2.50 kilometers is dirt road which originates from the national road to Sorsogon. The total population is 600 with 124 households, a total land area of 1.22 sq. km. and the major economic activities are agriculture (rice, copra, corn , rootcrops) and cottage industry ( anahaw and abaca products). It has access to basic services and facilities (exemption is electricity) but usually of a standard in need of improvement to serve residents of the area.facilities in the area areelementary schools ( 9 rooms, 3 teachers), barangay health center, chapel, SK hall, waiting shed, barangay hall, barangay outposts, multi-purpose pavement, shallow well and deep well (12, 1) and 30 meters concrete barangay road.

Letter “o” was also affixed to the term for a better sound. The first Barrio Lieutenant was Antonio Alcantara, followed by ten others and presently by Rodito Alcala, the youngest son of the first barangay captain. most of the residents are either of the barangay or the municipality. It is one more populous and progressive barangay of the municipality with 3,912 residents and households of 760 .Although primary an agriculture area, the presense of abaca exporting enterprenuer an a chicken dressing facility has provided for additional job oppurtunities and income. Household income level average P 1,200 monthly. Accessible by national road household and students enrolled in the poblacion and market trips can be daily. Rice and coconut is the main source of living with handicarfts and backyard piggery as an income supplement. Professionals and skilled workers in various trade and industry is present. All services and facilities are existing and adequate. Nabasan is one of the barangays in the far southwestern portion of this minucipality,19.65 kilometers from the poblacion.the last 4.50 kilometers of this distance is a barangay dirt road and households use both local and neigboring market 1-2 weekly due to their location.The population is 558 with a total land area of 5.50sq.km. and the major economic activities are agriculture (rice,copra,swine,and poultry) and cottage industry (almost every to some extention) The rugged terrain and numerous hills of the area limits yhe area of the lands ideally suited to agricultural activities.Household income average P1.250 monthly.Services and facilities available are minimal and in need of upgrading.There is an elementary school located in the barangay.

It has the land area of 3.61 km.made up to 8 puroks.The populatin is 1,254 with 254 households, Agriculture ( rice,copra bananas,fruits and vegetables,poultry and swine) and cottage industry are the major economic activities or sole source of income.Household income average P 1,250 monthly and market trip frequency occurs 1-3 times weekly.Residents ranks the services and facilities of school ,roads and public transportation and electricity as excisting and adequate,water,health and sanitation in need of improvement. Among the facilities available are: complete elementary school,barangay hall,health center,multi- purpose pavement,shallow and deep wells.

Pandan is west-northwest of the poblacion at a distance of 4.23 kilometers.The population is 995 with 192 huoseholds and main economic activities are agriculture (irrigated ricelands,copra and cottage industry (in most households income supplement). It has a land area of 0.92 sq. km.Household income average P 1,250 . Household market movement occurs 1-3 times a weekly. Heath services, road and public transportation facilities existing but needs improvement are barangay hall,barangay road (330 meters ), concrete pathway and bridges.
Pandan was formerly a sitio of lacag but in 1950 it separated from lacag thru a Congressional Act under the auspices of then Congressman Justino Nuyda, Sr.
Penafrancia is located 3.50 kilometers south of the poblacion along the national road to Sorsogon. The population is 2,107 with 357 households with a total land area of 1.81 sq km. and the major economic activities are various pursuits, cottage industry as either an income supplement or sole source of income and employment in the poblacion. Households to market movement is high with an average of 1-4 trips weekly to local market and 1-3 trips to neighboring market. Through most services and facilities are available to some extent,they are often in need of improvement and residents often avail of the central facilities of the nearby poblacion. The barangay was named after its patron saint “ Our Lady of Penafrancia”. it was once known Sitio Oras of Tabon- Tabon and was finally separated thru a congressional enactment.
This barangay is the most populous in the municipality with 6,535 residents and 1,185 households. The land area is 0.29 sq km. It is the eastern portion of the urbanized area along the national road to Legazpi City.Major economic activities of the residents are public and private employment and business. As an urban area income levels vary greatly from 1,250 to 10,000.The mean income level is P 2,000 monthly per household. making it one of the more affluent ares. Households use the local and neighboring market daily. The population is quite transient with less than 10% of its barangay of its household native to the barangay.residents having migrated in from throughout the region for their employment or educational reasons. All services and facilities are available to Sagpon residents and adequate sanitation and solid waste management and fire protection needs improvement. located in Sagpon are elementary,secoday and tertiary schools, commercial establishments, boardind houses,dormitories,subdivision,chapels, barangay hall,health center, multi-porpose pavement,baranagay outpost and drainage canals, Many student and students and employees from other provinces board throughout the barangay.
Sagpon comes from the word “Sagpan” meaning river embanksments that protect the residents from inundation and enemies.
Salvacion is the barangay along the national road to Camalig, 5.45 kilometers northwest of the poblacion. The Land area is 5.49sq. km. it has a population of 2,476 with 486 household Major economic activities are agriculture (irrigated riceland) employment and cottage industry. Income levels are slightly higher than average for a rural area with the average monthly income at 1,500.With easy access to road network household use the local market 2-3 times for the neighboring market. Roads public transportation,electricity and schools are adequate and existing,sanitation and heatlh services are existing but needs improvement. Among the facilities are:barangay hall,barangay outpost, multi- purpose pavement (3) water impounding tank,spring, public toilet,concrete walkways & sidewalks (110 meters),Iincenators and handloom weaving center.
IN 1959,Sitio Maopi and sari sari of Malabog were separated and formally creating barangay Salvacion.The name was adopted in honor of Nuestra Senora de Salvacion, its patron saint.
San Rafael is located in the lower southwest portion of the municipality, 19.65 kilometers from the poblacion with a total land area of 0.30 sq km. San Rafael is one of the least populous barangay of the municipality with 304 residents totaling 65 household and the primary economic activities are agriculture (copra,rootcrops,bananas) and cottage industry Practically, all households engage in some aspect of cottage industry process as an income supplement with senamay weaving quite popular.The average monthly income per household is 1,250. Market trip frequency is 1-2 times weekly and the neighboring market monthly. The location, size lack of service and facilities produced slower development.
This barangay was formerly a part of Canarom. The requisite number of residents needed to from a barangay was made by asking the leadership of nearby barangay Bigao, San Vicente and Nabasan to relinquish coverage of some of its residents. The name San Rafael was adopted in honor of its patron saint.

San Roque is an urban barangay occupying the northwest portion of the poblacion.It is the third
most populous of all the municipal barangay with 4,304 residents in 803 households with a total land area of 041 sq km and the major economic activities are public and private employment,private business, professionals,cottage industry and service employment.Income levels are some what high in the area within the average households realizing P1,750 monthly.Households use the local and neighboring markets almost daily. Urbanization exist with households migrating into the area from throughout Bicol. All services and facilities are available to the residents, but none seems completely adequate, improvement are needed to adequately serve the area. Located in San Roque are the municipal hall,post office, parish church, Sto. Cristo- Chapel of the black crucifix.It has a barangay hall.SK building,health center,day care center,shallow well spring and barangay roads (1,610 meters)
This is another of the barangay located in the far southwestern of the municipality, 19.90 kilometers from the poblacion. It has a total land area of 3.42 sq. km..
Household use the local market 1-2 weekly. The population is 1,007:201 households.Agriculture (rice,copra, corn) and home industry (sinamay weaving) are the supplement or sole source of income is P1,250. There is general lack of services and facilities those that do exist are in need of improvement. San Vicente Pequeño is located southwest of the poblacion along the western boundary of the municipality at a distance of 13.00 kilometers by road, the last 6.25 kilometers of which is a barangay dirt road of limited usage.It has an area of 0.61 sq. km.
This is the least populous of the municipal barangay with 245 residents and 54 households in an almost completely agricultural area. (area,corn,vegetables). Practically all households engage in cottage industry as income supplement ( sinamay weaving ) deriving P2,000 monthly. Households make use of the local market facilities 1-2 times weekly and rarely use the neighboring market. Households may have plans to transfer elsewhere for variety of reasons.Of the existing services and facilities services and facilities available are: barangay hall, day care center,multi purpose pavement,deep shallow wells, and a 45 meter concrete barangay road. sanitation and health services, roads and public transportation and water are in need improvement and electricity is non- existent.

It is urbanized area of residential nature with a population of 2,586 and a total of 526 households in a land area of 0.38 sq. km. and the major economic activities are private and and public employment, professional, business ,cottage industry and agriculture. Household income levels range from P1,250 – p 8,000 monthly. Market trip frequency is 5-6mtimes weekly and the neighboring market is 3-4 times a week. Due to his urban nature. the population is transient with less than half of the households are native to the barangay. The remainder comes from elsewhere. All services need of improvement are sanitation health services and recreational facilities. Located here is the Mater Salutis Major Seminary and Sevel Village.
Tabon-Tabon is 4.95 kilometer south of the poblacion: the national road to Sorsogon with a total land area of 2.05 sq. The population is 1,592 with 379 households and the major economic activities small business.cottage industry ( half of the households,some as sole source of income ) and agriculture ( rice,copra, corn,vegetables and roots crops. ) The average household most income is P 1,500. Due to its location along the national road household have easy access to the central facilities and use local market 3-4 times weekly and the neighboring market a same frequency Service and facilities of schools, roads ,public transportation,electricity are existing and adequate : health and sanitation services, water needs improvement.Facilities located in the barangay are: elementary school ( 11 rooms (grade1-Iv ) ,health center,barangay hall, shallow wells,waiting shed, Barangay road (180 meters, earth ), a bakery, auto repair shop and a rice mill.
Talahib is 8.45 kilometers south of the poblacion, the last 1.70 kilometers of which is a barangay road of poor quality from the national road to Sorsogon. The land area is 3.39 sq. km.
It has a population of 570 and 115 households and the major economic activities are agriculture ( rice,copra) and cottage industry. Most households engage in cottage industry as income supplement, Households use the local market 1-2 times weekly. Service and facilities available are: elementary School (combination class), barangay hall, multi-purpose pavement, water supply ( deep and shallow wells and spring).
In 1934 Talahib was separated from Kiwalo and got its name from the son of its settle, Talahib.
Tagas is located 2.02 kilometers northeast of the poblacion along the boundary of Legazpi City with a total land area of 1.00 sq.km. It has a population of 5,618 and 1,046 households and the major economic activities are: agriculture ( rice,copra, swine and poultry). private and public employment and cottage industry. Cottage industry is an income supplement for some households and the average income is P 1,250 to over P 10,000. This is a product of its urban nature and location. Household to market movement average 4-5 times weekly and on the neighboring market of the same frequency. Half of the households are native of the barangay and half coming from throughout Bicol .All the services and facilities are available with sanitation, police and fire protection.schools ( public and private ),roads, water, deep and shallow wells,Bitoy Spring). electricity and recreational facilities adequate. Located in Tagas are Doña Maria Subd. ARDHEIL Subd. Hardware and warehouses and abaca factory.Sunshine and Montessori Learning Center.
Tagas is derive from the word “matagas” characterized by the hard to cultivate soil of the area.
Villahermosa is the last barangay of the poblacion along national road going to Sorsogon at a distance ofm13.55 kilometers.The population is 1,935 households with a total land area of 4.12 sq. km. and agriculture ( rice,copra ,corn , vegetables) and cottage industry are the major source of income.Average households use the local market facilities 2-3 times weekly.Half of the households are natives to the barangay, the remainder coming from. within the municipality and elsewhere. Existing facilities are: elementary school school, chapel, health centers, barangay hall,waiting shed, outpost day care center, stage (2). multipurpose pavement, shallows wells (12),deep wells (3),develop spring (4), public transportation and electricity. However, service are needed to be improve. Located here is the training camp of the Philippine Army. Potential tourist attraction are the Tagdo River and the Milaos Cave.
