Events

At this Discrete Math Day we are excited to be featuring a poster session and art display. The poster session is for those people who would like to present a poster on their recent research. (Students are especially encouraged to present.) An art display will be set up to feature mathematical art and crafts created by our community. If you would like to participate in either, please let us know during registration.

About the series

Discrete Math Days in the Northeast is a series of one-day conferences that brings together combinatorists in the Northeast. We seek to provide a relaxed atmosphere and a friendly environment conducive to fostering collaboration across institutions and disciplines.

We hold two meetings per year, one in the Fall and one in the Spring. The meetings take place at different universities in the Northeast. We hope that by holding meetings at different universities researchers with limited institutional support will be able to attend and keep up with research. We also seek to provide a welcoming entry into the mathematics community for graduate students as well as undergraduates.

In the past Discrete Math Days have been held at Bard College, Dartmouth College, Saint Michael's College, Middlebury College, Skidmore College, SUNY Albany, SUNY Binghamton, University of Rhode Island, University of Massachusetts-Amherst, Wesleyan University, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, as well as many others. Information on previous meetings in the series can be found here, here, and here. If you would like to receive announcements of future Discrete Mathematics Days, please email Seth Chaiken at sdc@cs.albany.edu.

This event is sponsored and hosted by the Mathematics Department and the Division of Mathematics and the Natural Sciences of Queens College of the City University of New York.

The series is currently reapplying for funding from various national foundations. Unfortunately, we do not currently have funding for attendee travel or lodging.

The Queens College campus is located at 65-30 Kissena Blvd. Queens, NY 11367. Directions to campus via car and public transportation are available here. Talks will take place in Kiely Hall Room 258.

Parking on Queens College campus is available. in Parking Fields 5 and 14 for attendees arriving by car. You are asked to enter through the Reeves Avenue Gate (NOT the main gate on Kissena Blvd), which is at the intersection of Reeves Avenue and 153rd St. When you enter through this gate, turn right at the first right, and then turn left at the first left. Parking Field 5 is the lower level of the garage on the right and Field 14 is the upper level of the garage on the right - It's your choice! Then there is a 5-10 minute walk to Kiely Hall.

PARKING UPDATE: There are other events happening on campus on Saturday, so they have asked attendees arriving by car to park in Parking Fields 2 and 7. Enter through the Main Gate on Kissena Blvd, which is at the intersection of Kissena Blvd and 65th Ave. You will enter through the gate, go up the hill, turn left and pass by the public safety office. They will direct you on our service road, which winds through campus. Just after you take a sharp right turn at a very yellow corner, find a parking spot in the lot on the right (Field 7) or somewhere straight ahead (Field 2). You will then walk about 5 minutes to Kiely Hall, which is the tallest building on campus and you saw as you drove onto campus.
