De La Salle met many people who didn't like him. They didn't like him because he was opening free schools and it meant that children were not being sent to the fee paying schools and were sent to De La Salle's schools instead . They said awful things about him, attacked him and the brothers, vandalised and burned down the schools, and many more horrible things. But in all of this , John Baptist never looked for revenge. Instead, he prayed for them. In his schools, he taught and taught the same way. In his own words, we should "never speak to anyone except with kindness.

The world has changed a lot since John Baptist de La Salle was around. Sometimes the world is not a very nice place. But imagine if everyone followed the words of John Baptist and only spoke with kindness - then maybe the world would have been a better place. The Brothers who work around are famous not only for education but for their charity work and their kindness to people in the poor areas where they work.
