The Department is considered the ‘GANGOTRI’ of library education, library movement, and library service in the Country. It was established by the national icon of librarianship First national Research Professor SR Ranganathan and the first full-fledged University Librarian, Prof. S Das Gupta in 1946 under the patronage then the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Delhi Sir Maurice Gwyer.


The DLIS@DU Parivaar are extremely fortunate that we are celebrating the Platinum Jubilee of the Department in a jubilant ‘University and National Festive Season. That next year our parent institution (i.e., University of Delhi) will go to enter into the 100 years of its glorious journey and mark as ‘Centaury Year’ on the other side Our pound nation will also celebrate its 75th Years of Independence and the Government of India has announced as “Azadi Ka Amrat Mahotsav”.
