Anionic redox reactions have created a new paradigm for increasing the energy density of cathode materials beyond the cationic redox reactions originating from oxidizable transition metal (TM) elements that exhibit intensively in a number of compounds based on TM-based layered oxides in lithium- and sodium-ion batteries.
