Dave Kenneth Tayao CAYADO, PhD
psycholinguistics - neurolinguistics - experimental morphology
Welcome! I am a {neuro/psycho}linguist working on morphological processing and reading acquisition. I am currently a British Academy Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Rastle Lab at Royal Holloway, University of London's Department of Psychology.
I explore questions like: how are complex words encoded in the human mind and brain -- as smaller meaningful units (i.e., morphemes) or as whole words? What information does the human mind/brain use during this early, form-based decomposition? How and when do child readers develop the ability to recognize smaller meaningful units?
To address these questions, I exploit the morphological structures of Tagalog, an Austronesian language from the Philippines. I use a wide-range of behavioral (e.g., reaction time, accuracy), computational, and neurophysiological (e.g., magnetoencephalography, electroencephalography) methods for my experiments.
In June 2024, I received my PhD in Psycho/Neurolinguistics from Queen Mary, University of London (QMUL) under the supervision of Prof. Linnaea Stockall, Dr. Adam J. Chong, Prof. Daniel Harbour FBA, and Dr. Samantha Wray (external, Dartmouth College, USA).
