We're constantly tracking developments on the issue of reopening schools from around the world. We post the most relevant information from only respected sources, and update this section as regularly as possible.
We attempt to place articles in chronological order where possible, with the most recent information first; this is not always possible due to formatting issues. Nevertheless, the presentation gives a relatively accurate view of how this issue has unfolded in the media.
Needlessly divisive media (of which there is a great amount) is not given an audience. We do not list articles or commentary that is anti-teacher (as a group, we do not support anti-teacher rhetoric), except in a few places where it is important to the story.
This portion of the website is best viewed on a desktop. It is slow to load, due to the overwhelming press coverage of reopening schools.

Updated at least monthly - the link below is for Jan 18, 2021.
(ADMIN NOTE: The effort to reopen schools is not focused on the medical or research communities - they, by and large, have already recommended that children return to classrooms. We are wary of posting links to individual studies as evidence for our case, as results may be misread, or research poorly performed. Nevertheless, we are posting a few links here to support this specific aspect of the debate)
The COVID-19 School and Community Resource Library is a volunteer effort by a group of Massachusetts physicians, including pediatricians, infectious disease physicians, and school district physicians from multiple institutions across the state. Our objective is to offer a compiled source of published and publicly available data for clinicians who are advising K-12 schools and community organizations regarding best practices to prevent and manage COVID-19.
(ADMIN NOTE: This amazing collection of research is targeted toward medical & research professionals, and was generously offered to our group by the authors - we are extremely grateful! It should not be used to make broad interpretations. At times, the data changes - the authors continuously update the document to reflect these changes, but leave previous data alone to ensure integrity.
At 185 pages [and counting] of research summaries, with links to the actual research, this is the most authoritative compendium we've seen.
Incidentally, MA has largely recognized that school closures were probably not a good idea, and is working to reopen them)

Bashing teachers unions (and they deserve it) for ignoring children isn't going to reopen classrooms. Shifting power to parents just might.

ADMIN NOTE: The UK Closed its schools again on Jan 4th, until Feb 15th, after having them open as normal during the fall. “When the history of this pandemic is written, it will reveal that school shutdowns imposed far greater harms to our children than COVID-19 ever did--particularly for children from low-income families. The lost years of education, mental and emotional anguish, social isolation, limited access to exercise, play, and nutritious food will have impacts that will be felt for a generation, and we need a statewide commitment to get our schools open safely,” said San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo.
