The skills I learned in my professional writing class will be useful not only in future classes but in my workplace since many of these skills apply to my job as well as Robotics Manager. I do a lot of admin work and communicate a lot through Slack and may have unwittingly used some of these skills a lot throughout the years. However, seeing and practicing these skills allows me to hone in on this craft and become a lot more skilled at applying it.
I don’t think my idea about how I represent myself has changed; I think it has improved. I already had an idea of how to present myself through writing through trial and error through my experience climbing the ranks at my job. However, practicing these skills and seeing them represented in this course has helped me hone this craft a lot more. For example, I haven’t thought much about writing professionally through social media and always saw that as a more casual place, even with sites such as LinkedIn. Now, I see we can use these means as other ways to bridge out. Understanding when to apply that professional lens gives a more professional feel and can help create more professional connections.
When approaching this class, we take an honest look at Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its benefits and its weaknesses. Additionally, we look to see how we can use this to our advantage. I think AI is positive in the long run if we regulate it properly and use it as a means to enhance and not replace. I personally don’t like using AI for written work as I feel I lose an aspect of creativity and personal ownership over my work. Using it for images has been useful and hilarious at times, including that of music and videos. The videos have a long way to go and still seem to be a work in progress.
I think AI has some use for brainstorming ideas and properly helping structure paragraphs with its power to create great outlines. However, I find it to be too informative at times and can influence you to stick to their details as it is admittedly done very well despite not having that human feel to it. In my program for Game Development and future career involving the program, I plan to use AI for images to help conceptualize various aspects when it comes to game documentation and brainstorming ideas about how we want to develop the game.
