Djordje Marković is a composer and performer from Novi Sad, Serbia. He studied at the Academy of Arts, University of Novi Sad, where he earned his B.A. and M.A. degrees in composition. He also studied philosophy at the same university, graduating in Aesthetics and the Philosophy of Music, and pursued postgraduate studies in composition at the Kunstuniversität Graz with Beat Furrer.
He has attended lessons, masterclasses, and courses with composers who have helped him refine his personal way of thinking, including Alberto Posadas, Wolfgang Heiniger, Franck Bedrossian, Raphaël Cendo, Mark Andre, Tristan Murail, Clemens Gadenstätter, Isabel Mundry, Dmitri Kourliandski, Klaus Lang, Pierluigi Billone, Dieter Ammann and Dimitri Papageorgiou, among others.
His works have been performed at the Showroom of Contemporary Sound in Zagreb, Kings Place in London, Dimitria Festival in Thessaloniki, Crossroads in Salzburg, Rainy Days in Luxembourg, Contrasti in Trento (Italy), Impuls in Graz, MIXTUR in Barcelona, OutHear New Music Week in Larissa (Greece), reMusik in St. Petersburg (Russia), the University of Northern Iowa New Music Festival (USA), the International Review of Composers and KoMA in Belgrade, Afest in Novi Sad, and FEMUS in Subotica (Serbia). He has also performed at the Cultural Center of Serbia in Paris, Kresge Theatre in Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania, USA), Reaktor in Vienna, Southsite in Hong Kong, Weidner Center for the Performing Arts in Green Bay (Wisconsin, USA), CICUS Sevilla (Spain), Ljubljana Town Hall (Slovenia), G. Tartini Conservatory of Music in Trieste (Italy), the Concert Hall of Banja Luka (Bosnia and Herzegovina), and at numerous local concerts throughout Serbia.
His music has been performed by the London Sinfonietta (UK), Ensemble Nikel (Israel/Austria), Ensemble DissonArt (Greece), United Instruments of Lucilin (Luxembourg), Synaesthesis Ensemble (Lithuania), Klangforum Wien and PPCM (Austria), MotoContrario Ensemble (Italy), Aleph Gitarrenquartett (Germany), Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble (Russia), Vertixe Sonora (Spain), Ensemble Reconsil Vienna, Studio 6 (Serbia), St. George Strings (Serbia), and others.
His works have been selected in numerous international calls for scores. He is the winner of the London Sinfonietta International Contest for Postal Pieces (UK, 2013), laureate of the Rudolf Bruči Composition Competition (Serbia, 2015), laureate of the Tasselat International Competition (USA, 2019), and recipient of a special prize at the 4th Ise-Shima International Composition Competition (Japan, 2024).
