For zip code, the U.S. Postal Service Zip Code Database and the U.S. Census Bureau Zip Code Tabulation Areas datasets were used. The postal service database is a collection of postal zip codes used by the USPS to route mail more efficiently, sorted by county to get NYC zip codes.
The Census dataset contained shapefile data for each of these zip codes. For income, the American Community Survey (ACS) 2019 Income in the Past 12 Months (5-Year Estimates) was used. This data featured the median income estimates of each ZCTA in the U.S. categorized into households, family, married-couples, and non-family incomes.
For sanitation resources and measures, DSNY Litter Basket Inventory, Food Scrap Drop Off Locations in NYC, Districts, Monthly Tonnage Data, and Scorecard Ratings were applied. Litter Basket Inventory contains spatial data on all public basket locations and types in NYC. Food Scrap Drop Off Locations in NYC has spatial data on all locations where residents can drop off their food scraps to be composted. Districts is a shapefile of the 59 sanitation districts for operation management. Monthly Tonnage Data provides monthly collection tonnages that the DSNY collects from NYC residences and institutions. Scorecard Ratings is a monthly report on NYC street and sidewalk cleanliness.
To inspect cigarette litter, Active Tobacco Retail Dealer Licenses were used. This is a collection of all businesses/individuals holding an active DCA license to sell tobacco products.
