Agenda

Debrief Bridge to Practice

The purposes of this work is to further our understanding of the student-centered routine work happening in our schools. It is also to add to our understanding of how student-centered routines help students to socialize what they know and understand about ideas in a text and ELA content and help students take ownership of the learning happening in the classroom.

Small Group Sharing

Please work in your groups to share your Bridge to Practice work. You'll first discuss your Bridge to Practice in your breakout rooms using the questions on the Google Slides presentation. You'll then work with your group to capture one or two big takeaways about student-centered routines from your discussion.

Group A: North Dallas, WT White, Marsh, Spence, Mr. Kastl, Mr. Asmerom, & Dr. Ramirez

Group B: Kennedy-Curry, Atwell, Dade, Carter, Lincoln, Wilmer-Hutchins, Dr. Washington, & Dr. Hayes-Whigham

Group C: Adamson, Garcia, Zan Holmes, Kimball, Mr. Hussain, Mr. Swain, Dr. Rodriguez

Artifacts if needed

Please view the video here. The task sheet and text can be found here.

Reflection

  1. What can you do in your roll to support the use of student-centered routines that deepen students' understanding of content?

  2. What are you still wondering about student-centered routines?

Bridge to Practice

The purpose of this bridge to practice is to deepen your understanding of the work students produce in response to the comprehension tasks.

To complete this bridge to practice, please do the following:

Visit one or two NSI ELAR classrooms and ask the teacher(s) to share copies of the following:

  • A comprehension task sheet.

  • The text used with the comprehension task sheet.

  • 3-5 samples of student quick writes produced in response to the comprehension question. These could be copies of responses that have been written out on paper or digital versions if students are working online.

You will use the documents you collect during our next session on January 12, 2022 as we do some work studying students’ work.

If you have any questions about this Bridge to Practice or the work of the NSI, please feel free to reach out to
