Pre-Work Video for October 29th

Agenda 10292020

Agenda

Pre-Work

Please complete Step 1 and Step 2 prior to the start of our Zoom meeting at 6:00.

Step 1: Test of Change Reflection

As a school team, please navigate to Google Slides and work together to add a slide that responds to the following question:

  • Thinking about the work you’ve done from the beginning of the school year to this current iteration, what have you adapted, adopted, or abandoned during the creation of your quick write to essay task sheets?

You might consider linking to any relevant documents (such as task sheets) or including images to help illustrate your test of change.

Step 2: Learning about Online Tools to Support Student-Centered Routines

Please take some time to review the videos posted below before our meeting. During the meeting you'll be asked to select one of the tools below to work with during a breakout session. You'll then have an opportunity to get with your school team to share what you've learned and plan a task using one or several of the online tools.

Quick reference: How might student-centered routines be enacted online?

The Student-Centered Routines Chart is meant to serve as a reminder of what each student-centered routine is, but to also provide some thinking on how the routines might be used during online and hybrid instruction. The online variations are suggestions and we'd love to hear about addtional tools and instructional methods you've used to facilitated the routines as you work with students online.

Creating Landing Pages in Google Sites

Mariel Flores

This video provides a quick overview of one way to use landing pages. We will discuss how to set up a landing page during our breakout room session. You can visit the sample landing page from the video here and check out the other tasks posted in the sequence.

We are going to run breakout sessions on each of these tools during our meeting. You'll be able to select the breakout room session you wish to attend. Zoom has a new feature that allows you to select your own breakout room, but just in case that doesn't work, we are asking that you update your name when you log-in to zoom to reflect the following:

  • If you'd like to attend the breakout on PearDeck, please put P in front of your name (ex. P-Sara).

  • If you'd like to attend the breakout on Google Docs, please put G in front of your name.

  • If you'd like to attend the breakout on OneNote, please put N in front of your name.

  • If you'd like to attend the breakout on Landing Pages, please put L in front of your name.

Bridge to Practice

Bridge to Practice

The purpose of this bridge to practice is for you to continue the work with your school improvement team. For this bridge to practice, we’d like you to plan for a test of change that incorporates one or several of the online tools in either a comprehension task or a quick write to essay task.

To complete this bridge to practice, do the following:

  • Begin by working with your improvement team to draft a high-level comprehension task in response to a text.

  • Next, work to draft a task sheet that explains the sequence of routines that students should engage in to be successful with the quick write to essay task. Consider how your instruction might look as well (will your students need a model? How might that look?).

  • Then, decide which online tools will help your students participate in the student-centered routines needed to complete the task.

  • Work with your school improvement team to decide how you’ll study the enactment of the task (will you look at student work? Will you use exit slips?).

  • Finally, use your task with students and then come back together with your improvement team to decide next steps (Adapt, Adopt, Abandon!).

Team Coordinators, we will be checking in together in December, so please be sure you can talk about how the work is going with this test of change.

If you have questions about this work, please feel free to reach out to Sara or your cluster lead.

Exit Ticket

Please complete the exit ticket before the end of the meeting.
