OverDrive Home Page

Scrolling further on the home page will show you curated collections, such as titles that are always available.

Searching

Searching

The search bar is located in the top righthand side of the main page. Type your what you're looking for, or open up an advanced search window.

Search Results

After entering your search term, your results will show up with a bar on the left side of the page. These options will help you tailor your search to what you're looking for.

If you would like to borrow a title or place a hold, select the relevant option underneath the title. To place an item on your wish list, select the banner icon in the bottom right of the title. Clicking on the three dots next to the title will let you read or listen to a sample, view the titles details (like author, publisher, narrator, etc.), add it to your history, and see other titles similar that you might like.

Search Limiters

If you aren't getting the results you're looking for, try using the limiters (filters) on the left side of the page. For example, you can limit your results to audiobooks that are all currently available. You can also search the type of subject you're looking for as well, such as non-fiction, suspense, fantasy, and more. If you're looking to read/listen to a book in a different language, you can specify that here. Reading levels and interest levels are limiters you are able to use as well.

Advanced Search

The advanced search saves you a step. Rather than putting your search in the search bar and having to use limiters to narrow down your search, you can use the advanced search function. It also gives you a few more options to search by than the limiter (filter) section does.

Collections

Collections are groupings of similar titles to make it easier to browse. Select the option "Collections" on the top left side of the page to access the drop down menu.

Lucky Day Reads

Lucky Day Reads are popular titles that are currently available. There are over 500 titles in the collection and they rotate so check often if there's a popular title you're interested in.

Browse Subjects

You can choose to browse by subject by clicking "Subjects" in the top left bar. You can limit your search to eBooks, audiobooks, or magazines and it will show you every title in the collection.

Under each of those headings, the subjects are further broken down into subjects like art, fantasy, mystery, pets, thriller, music, science fiction, and more.

Audiobooks

Audiobooks

Clicking on a title or selecting "Details" on a title will take you to a page like this. You can see what subjects it's classified under, a description, reviews, and more. If you're not sure you want to sign it out, you can listen to a sample first. Once you've decided to sign it out, click the "Borrow" button.

Signing Out an Audiobook

Popular titles can only be signed out for 7 days, but for most items, you can select your loan period (7, 14, or 21 days).

Starting an Audiobook

While you can download an eBook to play on an eReader, audiobooks are more limited to how they can play. Either you can play the title on your browser, or you can use the Libby app.

Listening to an Audiobook

While listening to an audiobook, you can rewind, fast forward, select a specific timestamp. In the top right corner, you can select the playback speed, set a sleep timer, view bookmarks & highlighted sections of the book, and create bookmarks.

Audiobook Sleep Timer

Some people enjoy falling asleep as they are being read to. The audiobook sleep timer lets you do that without wildly losing your place in the book. The book will stop once the timer finishes counting down so you can much more easily find your place.

Online content is automatically returned when the item is due back. If you are done with a title and want to return it early so another user can access it, select "Return" at the bottom of the loan.

Holds

If the title you want is not currently available, you can place a hold. You are able to place up to 40 titles at a time. To view your holds, select "Holds" from the "My Account" drop down in the top right corner.

You can change the status of your holds if you need to. "Edit Email" lets you change your email to the best method of contact. OverDrive will contact you by email when your hold is ready to sign out. "Suspend Hold" is great for when you know you are too busy to enjoy your hold but don't want to cancel your hold. You can select when you would like your hold to be reactivated without losing your spot in the line. "Remove" will cancel your hold if you don't want the title anymore.
