Turtles are significant symbol of Terengganu and its beaches are among their preferred spot for laying eggs. This representing the state's rich marine biodiversity and natural. Every year, various kinds of sea turtles, including the endangered leatherback turtle, visit to Terengganu's coasts to lay eggs. The state's clean and calm beaches, particularly those near Rantau Abang, are perfect nesting grounds. This natural phenomena has also become an attraction for eco-tourism and conservation activities in the region.
Rantau Abang was once world-famous for its Leatherback turtle landings, especially between May and September. Although the number of these turtles has sadly declined over the years, it remains an important turtle conservation site. Efforts are still ongoing to protect and raise awareness about endangered sea turtles in the area.
