MISSION STATEMENT

MISSION STATEMENT

Our Primary Mission is to relieve families of some of their Immediate Suffering following Natural or Man-made Disasters. Our response will be primarily to Disasters resulting from Tornadoes, Major Grass Fires, Floods, Hurricanes, Earthquakes, and Other Major Disasters. We are presently extending support to families suffering from Home Fires and Special Circumstances.

Disaster Helping Hands has been in existence, as a 501 ( C ) 3, Tax Exempt Organization officially since 15 February 2006; although, we had been assisting families in 2005. As a small organization, our assistance is Disaster Focus and we concentrate our efforts on Mission Accomplishment. We have 3 members on our board, as required by law, and operate primarily with Volunteers to accomplish our mission. Although all Board Members are salaried positions, no member has received a salary or any form of payment to date. All funds collected to date have been dedicated to Mission Accomplishment and our Building Project. As of August 2013, we have given away over 225 tons of Appliances, Food, and Furniture to Families and Communities that meet our requirements.
The items that we have given to Families and Communities were donated by Businesses, Families Down-sizing or Death of a family member, Families Relocating, Estate Settlements, State Institutions, and other sources. We help those in need by giving them major household items needed in re-establishing their lives to some degree of normalcy when they are least likely to help themselves financially or emotionally. We have helped many families following House Fires in the Wichita Falls Texas Area and surrounding communities. Limited assistance has been extended to help Senior Citizens, First Step, the Wichita Falls Boys and Girls Club, Churches, and the Area Agency on Aging of North Texas. We have helped many communities in surrounding states following Major Disasters.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

We are presently raising funds for the construction of our own 9000 (60×150) Square Feet combined Office and Storage Space. We have been using donated space to perform our mission. Our Temporary Situation has grown into 5 years without an Office and with Limited Storages Space. Not knowing when we will be asked to vacate the space creates instability and hampers our ability to serve the community during a crisis.

In 2009, we began our project to secure our building and make long-term plans to become Self Sustaining in our effort to provide a seriously needed service and jobs in our community. All of which must be done in stages. Our goal is to raise $600,000.00 for the construction of our new Office and Storage Building.

We have completed Phase 1 by reaching our initial goal of raising $150,000.00. As of December 31, 2012, we raised $171,995.00 with $139,662.00 in the bank and No Debts

MR LEON GREEN

FOUNDER

I am Leon Green, 71 years old, and I am the Founder and Executive Director of Disaster Helping Hands. I am an Honorably Discharged Retired Air Force MSgt. with 24 ½ years of continuous active service. After retiring, I became self-employed selling Office Supplies, Computer Supplies and later, became involved in Vending. My source of income is my Military Retirement, Social Security, and Income from my small Supply business.

God has blessed me in so many ways in which good health is just one. This blessing, at this point in my life, has enabled me to pursue my desire to help others by serving or giving back to our community or society in a manner that gives me personal fulfillment.

All of us have gifts or talents that can be shared, regardless of age, in making our communities a better place to live during normal times or after disasters. I have selected the area following Disasters as my area of work. This could be a disaster at a personal level; such as a Family’s House Fire or a Community following Tornados, Massive Grass Fires, Floods, Hurricanes, or similar events. This is the area that I have selected to work on and I NEED YOUR HELP IN COMPLETING OUR PROJECT.
