Optional day
We will hold an optional pre-workshop day on July 10, 2023, which will include in-person visits to local religious sites in Pittsburgh, PA connected to tangible religious artifacts.
In the morning, we will visit the Rodef Shalom Biblical Botanical Garden, which seeks to recreate the Holy Land in miniature with plants, waterfalls, and paths. After having lunch together, we will then visit Saint Anthony Chapel, home to the largest collection of Catholic relics outside of the Vatican to consider the role that religious relics and artifacts have played in the lives of believers for centuries.
Participants will be invited to take photos of artifacts from these visits that can be combined into a collection for exhibition during the workshop. Together, these visits will provide inspiration for the activities on the following day and help workshop participants consider the different forms that religious and spiritual artifacts may take.
When completing the Google form on the Submissions page, please indicate whether or not you'd like to participate in these activities. Participation is entirely optional.
