“Finally, the TY tour!” Hannah squeals. Sadhbh approaches Hannah and covers her mouth. “Hannah,” she sighs. “We’re in a packed airport, PLEASE be qui-” Sadhbh suddenly jumps back. “YOU LICKED MY HAND, EW!” Sadhbh starts to chase Hannah around the airport, tripping over Saoirse’s long hair. “Ibijibijijijia” she squirms. Denise is holding hands with Raphael and is yapping to Mr Fahey about the itinerary and if there’ll be any leftover time to visit the “MHA museum” in Japan. Amelie is side-eyeing Denise as she does so.
Gojo is picking on Connor about his Hawaiian shirt that Hank gifted him as a TY trip present. Geto steps in to defend his younger brother from Gojo’s relentless bullying. “Gojo, you are LITERALLY wearing a skirt.” Connor looks up at Geto. His older brother hardly ever defends him. Geto notices this, and tenses up. “The Hawaiian shirt is horrible, you should bin it. I wasn’t defending you, I just- ugh” the smile does not leave Connor’s face. Papyrus drags Sans in by the hood. “SANS, WHY WOULD YOU AGREE TO CHAPERONE WITH ME IF YOU CAN’T EVEN BRING YOURSELF TO GET UP ON THE DAY OF????” Sans just snores. Deku runs from Papyrus, intimidated by his loud personality. “D-dad?” he runs to All Might. “Shut up Deku, I’m talking to my son.” All Might scruffs Bakugo’s hair. “Dad, bakugo isn’t your son, I a-am!” All Might twerks until Deku runs away.
...
“O-ok class…” Mr McLoughlin fumbles to get the TY’s and the chaperones attention. “class” Mr Durkan voice shakes the airport. Everyone’s attention turns to the small collection of teachers. “T-thank you Matthew…” Mr McLoughlin clears his throat. “The plane is b-boarding now, s-so get your bags and follow any of the chaperones, and let’s go!” Everyone boards the plane. While everyone is sitting in their seats, a flight attendant Barbie and Buggerpun get the passengers attention. Flight attendant Barbie begins to make an announcement
“Attention passengers, our pilot seems to be a little late. The take-off may be a bit more delaye-” suddenly Hank stumbles onto the plane. He seems hungover, but when Barbie asks him if he’s fit to fly, he nods. “I’m not letting Connor miss the tourrr” he stumbles over his words and gets into the cockpit. Very few of the passengers notice his drunken state. Those who do exchange slightly concerned glances, which flight attendant Barbie notices. “Do not worry everyone, we also have a co-pilot and an autopilot!”
The plane sets off. The co-pilot, Kamski, and the auto-pilot, Rouxls Karrd, both yap about how amazing they are. They are not focused on flying at all, and they draw Hank’s attention from controlling the plane. It is just for a second, but a second is all it takes for all to go wrong.
...
Screams. Fire. Blood. The smell of decay and the taste of metal.
“HANNAH!” Amelie shouts, pulling herself out of the scrap. The plane was in the water, crashed and crumpled like a piece of paper. She cuts herself on a sharp pole as she paddles to the nearest land. “GETO” Gojo and Saoirse scream in unison. They notice the nearby land and also try to do all they can to reach it. “DEKU” Denise screams. Slowly, more and more of the TY’s congregate on the shore, shouting out and searching for their dearests. After the screams from the flaming plane die out and everyone still alive is seemingly on the beach, they decide to do a head count. All the chaperones, teachers and students have been reduced to a measly few survivors; Amelie, Hannah, Sadhbh, Saoirse, Denise, Raphael, Deku, Bakugo, Connor, Geto and Gojo.
They look around and each other, damp, bruised and shaking. Hannah suddenly gets teary-eyed. She looks around again and- her worst nightmare, there’s no one to play teacher’s pet to. “G-guys?" she stands up. “Are there no chaperones OR teachers left..?” Everyone looks around and murmurs among themselves. They hear a shout and look back over to the wreckage. “GUYS, I’M STILL ALIVE!!” Mr Fahey waves over at them. Amelie and Saoirse groan. Hannah cries tears of joy. Then, Mr Fahey yelps and gets pulled underwater suddenly. A few bubbles bob to the surface, before they stop. “NOOOOO, MR FAHEY” Hannah sobs into her wife’s shoulder.
The students all are in a state of shock for a while. Then, they all murmur with each other, trying to make sense of it all. While they do that, Deku looks up at the sky. “G-guys, it looks like t-the sun may be setting soon, w-we need to stay warm somehow!” No one hears Deku’s meek voice over their own concerned mumbles. Amelie looks up at the sky and comes to the same conclusion. Instead of straining her voice, she reaches into her damaged bag and pulls out a dinner bell and rings it.
Everyone shuts up and looks at her. “LADYBUGS AND GENTLEELS, the sky is growing darker by the minute, and we’re all damp and cold. Shivers and night do not go well together, we need to organise ourselves.” Everyone suddenly becomes aware of the little time they have ticking away.
...
Everyone tries to do what they can to help. Unfortunately, something Amelie, Connor, Geto and Sadhbh realise quickly, the group is full of non-critical thinkers. It’s a complete mess. Any time Deku picks up a stick, Bakugo pushes him over and takes it for himself. Denise is swooning over the bickering boys, and Raphael is sadly trying to pull her away from them. Hannah looks for food, saying her Home Ec skills will come in handy. She picks some salad leaves, to which Saoirse, with her scouts knowledge, confirms their safety to consume. Then Gojo pushes Saoirse over and intercepts the conversation.
“That’s hardly classified as edible, they have no sugar!” he insists. Hannah nods in agreement and throws away the leaves. Geto receives the bell from Amelie and gets everyone’s attention. “OK you monkeys, use your critical thinking skills. Our lives rely on getting usable firewood and sustenance!” Amelie and Connor nod. “Everyone, bring any of your luggage that survived over here to this rock!” Connor requests. Hopefully the bags have something useful.
...
The luggage was being sorted through by Hannah, Deku and Gojo, being overseen by Amelie. Firewood was being collected by Bakugo, Denise and Raphael, being overseen by Sadhbh. Geto approached Saoirse. “Will you come with me to search for any food? I heard that you were in scouts.” Saoirse, flustered, looks up at him. “AAAAA- I mean- I’d love to pair u-up with you!" she grins. “Oh, it won’t be the pair of us, Connor is coming too so he can easily navigate to and from the camp.” Saoirse’s face freezes. She looks at Connor, giving him a death stare. “Come on Saoirse,” Geto beckons. “We’re losing daylight.” Connor, Saoirse and Geto go into the woods.
“HANNAH AND GOJO, STOP TRYING ON EVERYONE’S CLOTHES, WE’RE SORTING THROUGH THE LUGGAGE TO FIND USEFUL ITEMS!” Amelie shouted at Hannah and Gojo. Hannah was wearing one of Geto’s corsets. Gojo was wearing someone’s bra. “Y-yeah, c’mon guys!” Deku agrees. “Shut up Deku” everyone says in unison. Hannah sorts through her bag a little more. “Oh my god, I forgot I packed this!" she pulled out 6ft heels from her bag. Amelie stared at her astonished as Gojo fawned over them. “Hannah… those aren’t useful to us- in fact, why did you even pack those???” Hannah looked up, offended. “Hey, they keep morale up! Also, you’re one to talk about packing restrictions. You packed your dinner bell!" she responded. Gojo oohed at the clapback.
“I packed this stupid dinner bell because I planned on dropping it in a volcano. What a cruel twist of fate that it is now the only thing keeping order on this damned island.” They all go silent for a moment, still not having fully processed the dire situation they’re all in. Hannah sheds a tear as Gojo pats her back. “S-sorry…" she sobbed quietly. “I just miss Mr Fahey…” Amelie turns from sympathetic to snappy, insisting they all get back to sorting through the luggage.
...
Deep in the woods, Geto picks out different leaves and berries. With the approval of Saoirse’s expertise, they pick out the safe ones and leave the fatal ones. “Is this one good?” Geto points to a dark blue and purple berry. Saoirse looks into Geto’s eyes, distracted. She absentmindedly nods, to which Geto picks the shrub. “Wait-” Connor interrupts. “Saoirse, those aren’t safe to eat, pay attention.” Saoirse snaps out of her trance. Geto looks at the berries and throws them onto the ground, crushing them with his sandal. “Come on Saoirse, you need to lock in.” Geto says, disappointment laced in his words. Saoirse’s heart shatters, her entire body slumping as her face morphs into a dejected frown.
They continue their mission through the forest. Saoirse’s sadness morphs into blazing hot fury and she stares daggers into the back of Connor’s head. “You’re ruining everything…" she grumbles under her breath. She looks at the back of his shoes and tries to step on them. She misses a couple times, but on her third go, she manages to stomp on his heel. He tumbles forward, knocking into Geto as they fall to the ground with a thump. “CONNOR, watch yourself, you pleb!” Geto snaps. Saoirse freezes in place. She didn’t mean to cause a domino effect and topple Geto over as well. “Geto, it wasn’t me! Saoirse stepped on my-” Geto ignores Connor’s explanation as they get to their feet. Geto rolls his eyes after dusting himself off. “Connor, just go back to camp. We don’t need you.” Geto snaps. Connor tenses, mouth agape. “N-no! You need me for navigation! How will ye get back to cam-” “SAOIRSE DOES SCOUTS, IT’D BE FOOLISH IF SHE DIDN’T HAVE A GOOD INTERNAL COMPASS!” Saoirse decides to not comment on their brotherly spat as she admires the outcome of her tripping Connor over. Connor’s LED spins red, before back to a steady blue. “Fine, I’ll go back to the camp.” he turns and leaves Saoirse and Geto. Geto turns his back to Connor and walks away before Saoirse quickly catches up.
...
“Oeufgg…” Burgeponto groans, lifting his head planted in the sand. He sticks his tongue out, disgusted and coughing up sand. He looks around himself. He doesn’t see the plane he was on that just crashed. He doesn’t see any other passengers. All he sees is sand, water and trees. He sits up on the beach, shaking off any dust he can. He calls out for anybody, but no one responds. “Hm… am I the sole survivor of the plane crash..?” he ponders aloud. He looks at the sky, noticing it’s very close to night time. He shivers, his hairs standing on end as he holds onto his tail. “I do NOT get paid enough for this…” he grumbles before trudging into the dense forest.
The luggage is completely sorted through, just barely. Despite the order to prioritise essentials only, Hannah and Gojo picked out anything with bows, frills or that contained sugar. Amelie and Deku had a more reasonable group of items; anything that could be used as kindle, heavy clothes, food and water bottles. Deku handled the water bottles to the centre and Amelie carried over everything else. “Ok everyone!” Amelie rang the bell. Sadhbh, Bakugo, Raphael and Denise had returned from their firewood gathering trip a few moments prior and had set the wood down in a big pile. After a minute, Sadhbh, Bakugo, Raphael, Denise, Hannah, Gojo, Deku and Amelie were all standing around the unlit wood. Amelie looked down at her Bill Cipher pocket watch, tapping her foot impatiently. “Where are Connor, Geto and Saoirse?” she sighs (not dreamily). Looking into the woods, Connor emerges- without Saoirse and Geto. “Uh, Connor. Where’s Saoirse and Geto?” Sadhbh asks, her stomach grumbling. “Geto *sniff* informed me I was unwanted and that I should return to the camp. They probably won’t be much longer.” he rubs his eyes, calming himself down.
“Wait…” Denise says, concerned. “I thought you were with them to help them navigate back..?” “Well, I was supposed to,” Connor shrugged. “But Geto said that Saoirse would be able to navigate them back. She is in the scouts after all.” Amelie drops the bell in surprise. All those closest to Saoirse look into the woods, mouth agape. “No… Connor, Saoirse doesn’t have a good internal compass…” Amelie sighs. Connor’s LED flashes yellow as he drops his shoulders and guilt washes over him. “So… what about our food?” Bakugo growls. Raphael pushes Bakugo. “What are you, a sociopath?” Raphael snaps. “Why are you more concerned about the food than your friends? They’re in danger, for God’s sake!” Bakugo stumbles, before steadying himself and squaring up to Raphael. “What? They’ll be fine you big baby. Right now, we need to think of ourselves, survival of the fittest and all that.” Deku gets in between them. “G-guys, s-stop fighting! Who knows what’s i-in those woods, they could h-have gotten hurt or worse!”
Everyone turns to the woods. Deku may be a fool, but he has a point. They are in an unfamiliar place. Heck- even the water isn’t safe, just look at what happened to Mr Fahey, the woods probably contain much worse beasts. Sadhbh takes the bell from Amelie and gets everyone’s attention. “We need to organise rescue teams! Me and Connor have the best navigation skills, so we can lead two groups. We need to find them, and fast.” Most people split into two groups. Amelie, Connor, Denise and Raphael in one, Sadhbh, Bakugo and Deku in the other. Hannah and Gojo volunteered to stay back and watch the shore on the off chance that a boat might show up and see them. Amelie wanted someone to watch over them as she didn’t trust them on their own, but finding Geto and Saoirse was priority, so she let it go. Then, the two groups set off in opposite directions.
...
“OW- I think I pricked myself on something!” Saoirse dropped her pile of berries and plants that she and Geto picked. “Are you ok? Here, let me see it.” Geto took Saoirse’s hand to look at the cut. Saoirse froze up as he studied her hand. “Hmmm… it doesn’t look bad, but we need to take precautions to make sure it doesn’t get infected.” Geto took a ribbon out of his hair and wrapped it around her finger in a bow. “Tell me if it starts to feel weird, ok?” Saoirse doesn’t respond, looking at her finger and taken aback by Geto’s attentiveness. “Uhm… Saoirse?” Saoirse looks up. “Oh- oh yeah! I-I’ll let you know if it, uh, hurts or anything…” Geto smiles. He glances at his surroundings while Saoirse picks up her dropped goods. “Well, I think we’ve foraged enough for now. We should probably make our way back to the shore.” Geto looks at Saoirse, expecting her to lead the way. “Yeah, I think so too. I think we go… that… way?” Saoirse stares blankly. Everywhere looks the same. “You don’t sound too sure about that…” Geto looks at Saoirse with worry.
...
“So, Connor, when ye all reached this point, what way did ye turn?” Amelie asks Connor, but he is out of it completely, staring at his shoes. Amelie lightly pulls on the hem of his shirt to get his attention. “Uh, we went this way…” Connor sighs. Amelie, Raphael and Denise follow Connor as he leads the way to where he, Saoirse and Geto parted. Amelie slows down a bit and stands next to Denise. “Psst, Denise. Does Connor seem… spaced out to you?” Denise tears her eyes away from Raphael to respond. “A little bit, but then again, I haven’t been paying attention to him." she glances over to Raphael. Amelie pulls a face of disgust. Denise’s love knows no sickly bounds. She catches up to Connor and asks him if everything is ok, but he just says he’s fine and leaves it at that.
...
“Catch up, you two are so slow!” Sadhbh remarks, eyeing Deku and Bakugo. “K-Kachan k-keeps stepping on my shoes!” Deku chokes out. Bakugo steps on his heels in response. “I don’t care.” Sadhbh rolls her eyes. “Yeah Deku, nobody cares!” Bakugo spits. “You shut up too, Bakugo.” Sadhbh’s eye begins to twitch. She’s getting more and more annoyed by the bickering boys. She’s staying composed, but only for now.
...
“AAGGHH, I swear we’ve seen this tree 5 times already!” Geto buries his head in his hands. Saoirse falls to the ground out of exhaustion. It’s dark by this point, their only light coming from the moon. “Saoirse, you should have said that you had no sense of direction…” Geto sighs, tapping his foot in frustration. “I’m sorry Geto, this is all my fault!” Saoirse sits up against a tree, knees to her chest.
Geto drops his hands to his side. “This is a rough situation, but it’s not your fault. I shouldn’t have sent Connor away, it’s not fair to shove his responsibility onto you.” Saoirse turns to the tree around her and carves an S into it. “I… I need to confess. Connor didn’t actually trip, I-” Saoirse is cut off by the sound of rustling from nearby. She stands up and Geto stands back to back with her. “Hello?” Geto calls into the darkness. No response. The tension breaks when Saoirse sneezes. It’s getting colder now, it’s not a good idea to spend the nights in the woods. Geto looks over at her with concern. “Maybe… maybe if we get to higher ground, we can look for the shore from a mountain or something. I think there’s one in this direction.” Saoirse rubs her nose and follows Geto closely behind. Right as they leave, the bush rustles again…
...
“Ok, this is where we split up.” Connor stopped in his tracks. There were squished berries on the ground and bluish-purple footprints leading from them to deeper in the woods. “Those are Geto’s footprints from when he stomped on the berries, I’m sure of it.” Raphael crouches closer to the ground. “Why did Geto stomp on them?” Raphael asked quizzically. “Oh, Saoirse said they were safe to eat. I corrected her and Geto smushed them.” Connor replied. “Is that when ye split up? Because you corrected Saoirse?” Amelie asked, confused on the series of events. “Uhm… no. Shortly after, Saoirse accidentally tripped me, and I fell into Geto. As older brothers do, he got mad at me. Really mad. He told me to get lost so… I just went back to camp.” Connor looks sorrowful as he recounts the events. His LED spins yellow and doesn’t return to blue.
“Connor…” Raphael sympathetically sighs. Amelie looks up at him. “Connor, don’t blame yourself. There was a lack of communication, but that isn’t your fault! You thought they would be fine.” she assures him. His LED flickers to blue, then Denise gives him a comforting bear hug, lifting him up with ease. He laughs as his LED returns to a steady, calm blue. The small group stand for a moment, the tension of the situation melting away. Connor looks up with fresh eyes. “I… I think I know where they are. I can scan for their footprints.” he determinedly nods. “That’s great and all Connor, but…” Amelie nervously shrugs. “We don’t have night vision like you, we can barely see a thing.” Connor grins. “No problem.” he taps the side of his head, and his palm emits a ray of light.
...
“YOU TWO NEED TO SHUT UP!” Sadhbh yells. Deku and Bakugo are childishly fighting. Deku is losing by a landslide. “Sadhbh! H-he’s hitting me!” Deku sobs, covering his face. Sadhbh kicks him to the floor, livid. She picks Bakugo up with ease and throws him at a tree. “YOU TWO ARE THE MOST INSUFFERABLE PEOPLE EVER, I SHOULD JUST LEAVE YOU TWO TO FEND FOR YOURSELF IN THESE WOODS!” Deku and Bakugo stand back up rubbing their bruises. They feel like they’re being yelled at by a teacher. Sadhbh sighs into her palm. “We need to go back to camp before it gets even darker. It does no good if we also get lost.” The three turn back to camp, making the journey in guilty silence.
...
Saoirse and Geto make their way up to the very top of the mountain. They can barely see, and get scratched while climbing, but at least they’re on higher ground now. They lie on the ground exhausted, starving and cold. Only 24 hours ago, they were on a bus with their class, teachers and chaperones, talking about going to Japan and seeing all the nerdy things there. Now, half the people who were on that bus are dead, and the other half is slowly going insane. “I-I know it’s c-cold, but I’m t-too tired to try m-make our way back t-to the shore…” Saoirse shivers. Geto sits up. He wants to say that they need to keep going, but even he is too exhausted to do so. At least they have a chance at getting back in the morning, but if they pass out from exhaustion while attempting to travel back, they may never be found. The two look up at the stars, hardly a cloud in sight.
...
Connor reaches a tree with an ’S’ carved into it. He examines it, and realises it was done recently. “I know their footprints are somewhere around here, they’re just hard to see…” Connor scans the area attentively. “Ah, found their trail again..?” His train of thought is interrupted. On closer inspection, there is a third pair of footprints behind Saoirse’s and Geto’s. He explains this to the rest of the group. Their vision isn’t perceptive enough to be able to see the third pair of footprints, but they do try to speculate. “You… you don’t think they were followed by something, do you?” Amelie proposes. The four look at each other, paranoia creeping in. “Maybe we should just follow the footprints… if Saoirse and Geto are nearby, we need to get them back to camp as soon as possible.” Denise worries. The four travel a little while more, and the third pair of footprints get impossible to track, so they continue to follow Geto and Saoirse’s steps.
They reach the foot of a mountain. “Ugh, please don’t tell me they’re up the mountain. I’m so exhausted from walking!” Amelie sits on the floor rubbing her eyes. “I’ll carry you on my back!” Denise offers. Amelie pulls a disgruntled face. “You will run up the hill and I’ll probably fall off and tumble down the hill, no thanks.” Denise sighs, wishing for a little extra workout. “Raphael, can I carry you then? Now I just really want to carry someone.” Denise asks. Raphael is taken aback. “What? I- you- uh-” Denise doesn’t wait for an answer and just picks him up onto her back. He yelps as she starts to dart up the mountain. “We better go after them, they can’t see without my light…” Connor sighs, a smile on his face. “Yeah, we probably should.” Amelie gets up and immediately falls back down, her knees giving out. “I guess I didn’t realise how tired I was, hah.” Connor lifts her up and starts to sprint after Denise and Raphael, quickly catching up.
Amelie and Raphael look at each other, both holding on for dear life as Connor and Denise race up the mountain. Raphael screams from fear, and Amelie starts to laugh. When they reach the top of the mountain, Connor puts Amelie back on her feet and Denise throws Raphael to the floor. She isn’t even out of breath, but Raphael sure is. Amelie smiles, then she looks up. Not too far from the four of them, Geto and Saoirse are lying motionless on the floor…
...
Begaspentie squinted his eyes. It was much darker than when he first entered the woods an hour ago. His ears perk up, there are voices coming from nearby. “Thank god I'm saved!” Burpun cheers. But then he stops. What if it's not fellow passengers but instead native islanders? They may not welcome a humanoid cat creature. Bagisprune doesn't want to take that chance, so he decides to approach slowly and see who it is. He hides in a bush nearby, but accidentally trips while trying to get closer. The two voices stop talking. “Hello?” One of them calls out. Bungepucker doesn't respond, he finds them loud and intimidating. The two voices discuss something that he can't make out. When they start to walk away, he gets back on his feet and discreetly follows them.
“QUICK!” Amelie urgently shouts. “Connor, you carry Geto, and Denise, you carry Saoirse!” Amelie, Raphael, Denise and Connor run over to Geto and Saoirse who are lying on the grass passed out. Connor checks their vitals. They're dangerously cold, and their hearts are slow. Connor awkwardly props Geto onto his back. He's more than strong enough to carry his brother, but Geto's slightly taller, making Connor have to reposition him a few times before he gets it right. Denise picks up Saoirse, carrying her bridal style. The four start to sprint to the shore, Connor leading the way.
“Oh my god, please be ok…” Connor sniffles, holding Geto tightly. His eyes get watery and his LED flashes between yellow and red. Saoirse squirms weakly in Denise's arms. “I-is Geto o-okay..?” Saoirse shivers profusely. “Saoirse, you and Geto will be fine!” Raphael calls out, but Saoirse has already fallen back into a state of unconsciousness. The four are scared for Saoirse and Geto's safety. They run as fast as their legs will let them, but they still wish they could move faster. “Camp is so close! When we get there, we need to start up a fire as soon as possible!” Denise shouts, out of breath. Connor finally reaches the shore where they've set up their camp, the others follow closely behind. They all stop dead in their tracks. The firewood is not in the big pile they left it. They turn to Gojo and Hannah who are giggling to themselves.
“Hannah…” Amelie stares exasperated. “Where is the wood..?” Hannah and Gojo exchange glances, smiles plastered on their faces. “Welllll, we thought it'd be a much better idea if we built a boat!” Gojo grinned ear to ear. Connor felt sick to his stomach as they continued their explanation. “But the boat wasn't turning out well, all the wood started to sink. Don't worry though, we retrieved the wood back from the water!” Hannah assured them. Connor started to shake. The wood was wet. The firewood was unusable. The firewood needed to save Saoirse and Geto was USELESS.
“WHY ARE YOU BOTH LAUGHING???” Amelie snaps, her eyes sharpening. Hannah is taken aback and Gojo gets in between Hannah and Amelie. The two fools clearly don't realise what they've done. “Well sorry! We were happy that we got seaweed to make ice cream from. We've done nothing wrong, we'll get through the night fine!” Gojo snaps back. “YOU MIGHT SURVIVE, BUT THEY WON'T!” Amelie shoves Gojo, then motions towards Geto and Saoirse. Gojo and Hannah finally notice the two of them. By this point, Connor had collapsed to his knees, laying Geto down in front of him. Saoirse is placed nearby, Denise trying to shake her awake desperately.
“...What's wrong with them?” Gojo asks, worry laced in his words. “They're freezing cold, and their heart rates are dropping…” Denise sighs, trying to hold back tears. Hannah and Gojo look at each other, their eyes stricken with guilt. As Amelie continues berating the two as they stand in silence, Sadhbh, Deku and Bakugo emerge from the woods, witnessing the war unfolding in front of them. Raphael updates them on the situation.
“Surely there’s something we can use as kindle!” Sadhbh exclaims desperately. Everyone rushes over to the luggage, throwing everything flammable into a measly pile. As the commotion going on, Saoirse stirs awake. Denise is busy trying to build up the fire, so Saoirse is left unattended. She weakly looks around and notices Geto and Connor. Connor is shaking, kneeling by Geto who is laid down on the sand. As Saoirse watches, Connor gently picks Geto up and holds him, pulling him in and hugging him closely. He desperately clings to his brother as he shakes, silent tears running down his face and onto Geto’s clothes.
Saoirse struggles to her feet, immediately toppling back to the floor. She slowly crawls towards Connor and Geto, tears welling in her eyes. She places her hand on Geto, gently shaking him, desperate. Connor sniffles, wipes his eyes, then taps something on the side of his head. He suddenly begins to emit heat like a radiator. Saoirse stumbles back onto the sand in surprise which catches the attention of Denise and Amelie. They run over to the three, checking on Saoirse first. While Denise and Amelie are asking Saoirse how she feels, Amelie suddenly notices the heat coming from Connor. “Connor… are you… using your heat function?” Amelie asks, concerned. Saoirse looks up confused. Why would Amelie be upset Connor is using a heating function?
Connor sobs softly into Geto’s shoulder. “I- I have to s-save him… I need to save him…” “Connor, you need to stop using the heat function! We don’t know how long we’ll be stuck on this island, you need to reserve your thirium supply, the heat function evaporates it rapidly!” Amelie tries to convince Connor, panicked. “I know that! But Geto will die right now if I don’t help him!” Suddenly, everyone’s attention is drawn to the flash of light. The fire has been lit. It’s rough, but it’s what they need. Everyone stares in shock for a moment, before gaining their bearings and rushing over to the fire with Geto and Saoirse.
Saoirse is held up by Denise by the fire. Connor holds Geto up, but he feels himself getting wearier. Sadhbh notices this and takes over. Connor is reluctant, but Sadhbh insists, noticing the exhaustion on his face. He steps away, stumbling and off-balance. He checks his thirium rate. He’s gone from 93% to 71%. Then, it ticks to 70%. Why did it change? He disabled his heating function, it should be stabilised! Then, he looked down at his stomach where his thirium pump is. His shirt has begun seeping with dark blue. He must have hurt himself when running through the woods and overexerting himself trying to warm Geto. He gets a jacket and throws it over himself to hide the obvious sign of injury. His self-repair features will stop the leak, right? He should be fine…
...
The night feels long. So long. Connor stays by Geto’s side. Amelie tries to encourage him to enter into stasis so he can save power instead of staying up all night. He refuses, he wants to make sure Geto doesn’t wake up without him being there for him. A few hours in, his self-repair functions haven’t done all they were supposed to. He isn’t losing thirium as much as before, but he’s supposed to be losing less than 29.16 ml/hour. His thirium capacity at 70% is approximately 3500ml, at 29.16ml/ hour, he may only survive 5 days, and that’s not taking into account unexpected stressors. His LED hasn’t been blue for a few hours by this point. He reaches for Geto’s hand, his temperature and heart rate only showing minuscule signs of improvement.
Everyone takes turns sleeping in shifts and taking care of both Geto and Saoirse. Every time Saoirse stirs back to consciousness, she’s encouraged to go back to sleep. The moments in between her states of slumber, she is reminded of Geto. Guilt washes over her every waking moment.
After what feels like an eternity, the sun finally rises. Those who were caring for Saoirse and Geto go to take a nap, and those who were taking a nap get up and try to do what they can. Without using the bell, Sadhbh gets everyone’s attention. “Ok, Amelie, Deku, and Bakugo are all sleeping. Connor shouldn’t be taken from Geto’s side, and Denise is about to go to sleep after being awake all night. Us four need to organise ourselves and to take care of things.” Sadhbh orders everyone around in hopes that they can get things under order. Raphael is told to look for anything that might be useful, but not to go deeper than the edge of the woods. Gojo and Hannah are ordered to watch over Geto and Saoirse but NOT to touch them, only alert Sadhbh if they stir. Sadhbh stays nearby, tidying up the area and luggage and rationing out some of the snacks that people had packed.
...
“Sigh…” Raphael walks along the edge of the woods, picking up sticks and berries. He can’t find much, but it’s far too dangerous to go into the woods, so he just has to make do. After a while of walking, he notices something in the sand. Footprints. Footprints going into the woods. Someone, or something, is on this island with them. “Calm down Raphael.” he says to himself trying to soothe his nerves. There’s no reason to think that whoever else is on the island with them is violent, right..? Images replay in Raphael’s mind of Mr Fahey’s final moments. Was he a bad swimmer, or was he pulled down? Paranoia sets in, and Raphael looks in the direction of the woods where the footsteps led. He decides he should probably just head back to camp.
...
When Raphael returns, Sadhbh hands him a bag of Tayto. He didn’t realise how hungry he was until now. He adds his small bundle of sticks to the weak fire and carefully places the berries with the small pile of snacks. Connor hasn’t left Geto’s side, and Saoirse has moved closer to the two of them. After resting and eating, she has a bit more energy. Amelie, Denise, Deku and Bakugo are all up too, routinely checking on Geto. Raphael decides to tell Denise about the footprints on the other side of the island. “And you’re sure they weren’t any of ours?” Denise asks Raphael after he finishes his recount. “I mean, we’ve only been on this island for a day, and there was only one pair of prints. No one had a chance to go on their own to the other side of the island.” Raphael explains.
Denise tells Sadhbh, who tells the rest of the group. “We need to stick together, there may be something dangerous on this island.” Everyone is on edge. It was already bad enough with Geto and Saoirse, now there is something else on this island. Amelie remembers Connor saying something about a third pair of footprints closely behind Saoirse and Geto’s. “Saoirse,” Amelie asks, sitting next to Saoirse. “Can I ask you something? If you have enough energy, that is.” Saoirse straightens her back up a little more and clears her throat. “Um, yeah, go ahead.”
“When you and Geto were in the woods, did you notice anything following ye?” Saoirse looks lost in thought for a moment. “I… I think I remember something.” she says. “Right before me and Geto decided to get to higher ground, there was this rustling sound nearby somewhere. Geto called out, but nothing responded.” Amelie nods, trying to piece together the series of events. If it was another passenger, surely they would’ve revealed themselves. Perhaps a beast is in the woods… Amelie shrugs the thought off.
Then, Connor gasps. Amelie and Saoirse quickly turn to him. There, they see Geto stirring awake. “Geto! Geto, are you ok?” Connor bombards Geto with his concern. “Ugh, everything hurts.” Geto croaks out, his eyes adjusting to the sunlight. Connor quickly gives Geto a pain au chocolat to replenish his energy. Everyone else has noticed Geto is awake by this point and has rushed over. Connor is smiling and his LED finally begins to slowly phase into a blue tone as he wipes his eyes. “You’re such a crybaby…” Geto smiles at his brother, hugging him with the very little energy he has. While this is going down, Saoirse distances herself from the group. Shame washes over her entire soul. If she never tripped Connor, none of this would’ve ever happened.
...
Bogaloospip spits out some bark. He’s starving and losing small clumps of hair from the stress. His stomach grumbles angrily, surely having glamburger withdrawals. At least the sun is up so he can actually see. Before the sun came up, he had heard people shouting ‘Saoirse!’ and ‘Geto!’. It startled him so much that he fell face first into a pool of mud. He reaches for some grass and pathetically tries to chew on it before spitting it out. Then he gets an idea; what if he snuck into the camp of the people who are already on the island and took some food? If they’re native to the island like he theorised, they surely have a plentiful feast. He decides to start his search for the base.
After another nap, Geto wakes up to shouting and arguing. “GOJO, STOP EATING SNACKS WITHOUT PERMISSION!” Amelie kicks sand at Gojo, who is chewing on some sugar-filled gummy bears. “I wah hungeh.” he says, gummies falling out of his stuffed mouth. Hannah runs over and eats up the bears that fell on the sand. “Amelie, please, my wife. Give us more sugar, we need it!” Hannah sniffles, desperate. “We have basically no food, we need to save it! But you two keep trying to sneak off with little snacks!” Amelie scoffs, jumping to try snatch the gummy bears off Gojo, who is holding them just out of reach. Amelie pushes Gojo, which takes him by surprise, and he drops the gummy bears, to Amelie’s delight.
“We are very low on food.” Sadhbh sighs. “We could go on another trip to try collect some, but we have to be more careful this time.” Connor raises his hand. “I- I know I didn’t do well last time, but I could go in. I know what’s safe to eat and I can navigate the woods well.” Sadhbh nods. “I suppose that’d work. I don’t think it’s a good idea for you to go in alone. Is anyone else willing to go with Connor?” Sadhbh asks. Everyone is tired and hungry, more than a little reluctant, but Amelie and Raphael agree to go with him.
“Raphael, please come back before dark. And don’t do anything dangerous!” Denise hugs Raphael. “Denise, I-I’ll be fine! You don’t have to worry, we’ll be careful.” Raphael reassures her, patting her shoulder and smiling. Amelie is talking with Saoirse, asking if there are any areas that are more fruitful than others. While Connor is waiting for Amelie and Raphael to hurry up, he checks on his thirium levels. It’s already down from 70% to 63%... He decides to ignore the error messages trickling in. He doesn’t want to concern anyone. Then, Amelie and Raphael join him and begin going into the woods.
...
“Saoirse, how are you holding up?” Geto’s voice startles Saoirse. “H-huh?” “Oh, I just asked how are you doing? That was… a pretty close call, to put it mildly.” Geto smiles at her, eyes sympathetic. “Oh- oh yeah. I got pretty scared back then… sorry.” Saoirse looks away from him, still feeling guilty. “Don’t be sorry. It’s not your fault. I shouldn’t have sent Connor away, it wasn’t right of me.” Saoirse’s guilt increases. “You would’ve never sent him away if I didn’t purposefully trip him!" she wants to shout, but she doesn’t, only repeating it in her head over and over. Geto notices her distant nature and stands up. “I understand if you want to be alone right now. You’ve been through a lot, take as much time as you need to get better." he smiles.
“Wait.” Saoirse asks. Geto stops walking away. “Are you… already feeling better?” she asks him, confused. “Yeah, but if you need more time, that’s completely fine.” Geto walks away. Saoirse wonders to herself. Why does she feel so sick? She feels almost worse than last night! She leans back, wincing from pain when she puts her weight onto her hand. She looks at her finger with the ribbon- Geto’s ribbon- wrapped around it. She slowly undoes the bow to examine the damage. It looks bad. Like, really bad. She decides she should tell someone about it before it gets worse, but when she gets up to find someone, her knees give out, and she falls to the ground with a thump.
...
“What’s up my main men?” Denise swoonfully pulls up, interrupting the conversation between Deku and Bakugo. “K-k-kachan is thinking o-of doing s-something stupid!” Deku sniffles his snotty nose. Denise looks at Bakugo who is rolling his eyes. “I’m thinking of going hunting for something better than Tayto, that’s not stupid! Deku here is just a baby.” Bakugo scoffs. “Well, Connor, Raphael and Amelie will be back soon with some food, so I don’t think you need to.” Denise reaches to hold Bakugo’s hand, but he pulls away. “NO! I-I want something with protein, like meat. Not this sissy rabbit food.” “K-kachan! T-that’s w-way too d-d-d-d-d-d-dangerous!!” Deku and Bakugo argue back and forth until Denise steps in the middle.
“Deku, my little lovely lad, I must agree with Bakugo. We need to keep up with our workout routines, and that includes keeping up with the Mr Beast Official Muscle Diet™.” Denise stands next to Bakugo, trying to hold his hand, and for the second time, failing. “B-b-b-but!” Deku stutters. “We’re going to hunt in the woods, and there’s nothing you can do about it.” Bakugo laughs. Deku steps forward, his eyebrows furrowing. “Then, I-I’ll tell Sadhbh a-and she’ll f-f-force you to s-stay here!” Bakugo steps forward, intimidating Deku. “No. You. Won’t." he growls. Then, Deku opens his mouth. “SADH-” Before he can finish shouting Sadhbh’s name, Bakugo covers his mouth. Denise and Bakugo carry Deku into the woods with them as he kicks and his screams are muffled.
...
“You’re really efficient at this, Connor!” Amelie says as Connor adds another berry to the giant pile in her hands. Raphael peeks around his pile of leafy-greens that is so tall, he can barely see where he’s going. “Yeah, perks of being an android, I suppose.” Raphael grins ear to ear. Connor just smiles back. He looks up a tall tree, and sees a bright red apple. “Geto loves apples…” Connor thinks aloud. Then, he immediately jumps to start climbing the tree. “Be careful!” Raphael and Amelie shout after him. He efficiently jumps from branch to branch, reaching the apple in no time. He picks it gently, then jumps back down. “I think we h̶͈̩͒̀ave enough food for̸̝̾ now.” Connor says. His voice had glitched ever so slightly, but he didn’t even realise. “Are you ok?” Amelie asks him.
Connor clears his throat. “Uh, yeah, I’m-” Raphael cuts him off with a shout. “Are you wounded? There’s thirium coming through your jacket!” Connor looks down. Sure enough, a small splotch of thirium is slowly peeking through the jacket’s fabric. He quickly covers it with his hand, as if they haven’t already seen it. He must have overexerted himself getting the apple for Geto. “Calm down g̵͖̤̖͌͊̄̈́u̶͖̳̎̊̉̔y̶̮͂͗̂s, I’m completely fin̶͇̓ę̸̱͔̖͋!” Connor tries to play it off, his voice getting glitchier. “My system diagnostics say I’m fine! You don’t have to worry.” Amelie and Raphael look at him, unconvinced, but willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, for now. “Well let’s go back to the camp. They’re probably all starving.” Raphael sighs. Amelie and Connor silently agree as the three make their way back. As they are traveling, Connor checks his thirium levels. 59%. More energy has been diverted to repairing the tear than other functions like his voice. People are going to start noticing something’s definitely wrong. Connor does not want that.
...
Geto goes to check on Saoirse after noticing she’s been by the dwindling fire for the entire time since he last talked to her. “Hey Saoirse, how are you doing?" he asks. She’s lying on her side, facing away from him. He kneels down in the sand and shakes her arm. “Saoirse?" she rolls over, her eyes shut and her face ill. Geto jolts in surprise, before desperately trying to shake her awake. “Someone, help! Saoirse won’t open her eyes!” Sadhbh is the first to run over, followed by Gojo and Hannah. Hannah immediately notices Saoirse’s finger. “Look! It’s all swollen and injured!" she points. Geto picks up Saoirse’s hand and looks closely. Her finger is bright red with hints of purple. Her veins up to her wrist are prominent on her skin.
“She hurt herself when we were in the woods, but I thought it was nothing!” Geto stared in shock. Just in time, Connor, Amelie and Raphael returned from the woods. The minute they saw everyone crouched down around Saoirse, they stashed their goods somewhere safe and ran over. “What’s wrong?” Amelie asked, out of breath. “Something in the woods pricked her, now she won’t open her eyes!” Gojo explains. When Connor approaches, people make space for him. He scans her arm and references it with his database. A warning comes up in his vision. ‘Offline browsing expends lots of energy. Are you sure you want to continue?’ Connor subconsciously places his hand above his thirium pump, before agreeing ‘Yes’ to the prompt.
Instantly, a list of results are provided to him. He scans them closely and picks out the most accurate one. “It looks like she got pricked by the Doohanberry, an extremely dangerous berry with an even more dangerous stem.” Connor reads a definition aloud, trying to scan for the most vital information. “Will she be ok? Can we help her?” Hannah asks, holding Saoirse’s hand. “She- it…” Connor stutters, exasperated. “It says… at the stage she’s at, she only has around 20 hours, if even…” Connor trails off. Then, he quickly stands up and backs away. “Physical contact with the wound has a small chance of spreading the disease, who touched her hand?”
Everyone looks around in silence. Geto and Hannah’s eyes are shaking. They both had touched Saoirse’s hand. Sadhbh immediately tried to keep order. “Hannah, Geto. You two stay away from the definitely uninfected, we can’t have this spread!" she ushers the two to a further part of the camp. “What about Saoirse?” Gojo asks. “She’s infected. Does that mean she’ll definitely die???" he asks, sounding more panicked than Geto and Hannah, the potentially infected ones. Connor shakes his head. “It looks grim. A hospital would help her, but the chances of us getting help within the next 20 hours are…” Everyone fills in the blanks. Saoirse is as good as dead, and Geto and Hannah could be infected.
...
“CAN Y-YOU P-PUT ME DOWN N-NOW?” Deku squirms, Denise still holding him above her head. “But you’re soooo light and cute!” Denise giggles, lifting Deku up and down like a weight. “SSSHHHSHSHHUT UP!” Bakugo whisper-shouts as he crouches down. Denise puts Deku down, and the two crouch next to Bakugo. In the not too far distance is a boar, waddling around. “Denise, hand me the spear.” Bakugo snaps his fingers, and Denise hands him a spear they had made a few moments prior. Bakugo holds it tight as he slowly sneaks up closer to the boar. Then, a twig snaps. The boar spins around, eyes Bakugo, then sprints away.
“WHICH ONE OF YOU MOVED?” Bakugo snaps the spear in his hands and looks over his shoulder, his eyes blazing and staring at Denise and Deku. “N-neither of u-us!” Deku jumps. Denise stares at Bakugo, his deep eyes causing her to blush a matching red. “Well, it had to have been one of you, because no one else is with us!” Bakugo grumbles, pinning the blame on Deku.
...
Begurpronkus freezes. While looking for the camp, he had heard what sounded like three voices approaching. He had decided to wait in a bush until they had passed, but accidentally stepped on a branch. “WHICH ONE OF YOU MOVED?” The gnarliest voice shouted. Blopo stayed perfectly still as the group argued over who made the noise. Then, they started discussing something that Bargenituploppy was very interested in. “We’re not going back to camp until we catch something that was once alive!” the angry voice barked. If they go back to camp, Bangerpappy could follow them to their stash and wait in the shadows for an opportunity to take their food! He smacks his lips and rubs his belly, picturing having some sort of sustenance. He decides to himself he’s going to follow the three until they go back to their camp.
It’s dark now, but the fire keeps the group basked in light. Hannah sits against a rock, hugging her knees to her chest and sniffling. Geto makes strides back and forth not that far away from Hannah. Saoirse lies beside the fire, not too far from Geto. Everyone else stands very far away from the three. “I can’t believe this is happening…” Raphael shakes his head. Gojo stands on the outskirts of the small huddle, and Amelie stares him out of stepping any closer.
“Connor,” Sadhbh asks after a short silence. Connor lifts his head up. “Are you able to check up on them regularly? The Doohan-whatever infection can’t spread to you, can it?” Connor checks his thirium levels. It ticks from 50% to 49%. Using features such as full body scans drains his thirium more than he’d like. But Hannah and Geto could be infected, and the sooner they know if they are or not, the better. Oh yeah… Geto could be infected. Geto could die.
“Connor, are you ok?” Amelie asks. He didn’t even notice the tears silently falling down his face. He rubs his eyes. “Uhm, yeah. I’ll check on them, I-I can’t pick up the infection, so I’ll… be fine.” Connor tries to soothe himself. Stressing his thirium pump will only make his situation worse. Then Sadhbh asks the group something that they all somehow noticed only then. “Where’s Denise, Deku and Bakugo?”
...
Saoirse opens her eyes with great effort. She sniffs, then coughs, then rubs her eyes and winces in pain. She feels horrible, and she’s certain she looks it. She looks down at her finger. Her vision fights to focus on the blur of her skin mixed with purple, black and blue hues. Her head is killing her, and she wants to roll over and shut everything out. Then, a voice snaps her back into reality. “Saoirse?" She opens her eyes. She sees someone looking over her. She squints a little more, and manages to make out Geto’s features. “Saoirse, are you ok?” he asks. Saoirse reaches her arm up before falling back into a state of unconsciousness.
...
Gojo sits close to the shore, watching the waves move in and out. It’s nice. The moon reflects off the sea foam, making it appear a calm blue. Right before the trip, him and Geto had an argument. Nothing major, it was petty, but that was the last time they interacted… Now, Geto is far from Gojo, and they may never make contact again. As Gojo wallows in his despair, he hears Raphael calling to him. “GOJO! Gojo, there you are!” Raphael runs up to him. “We really need all the help we can get. We’re trying to set up a shelter, it looks like the clouds might be getting heavier, and we don’t want our little reserve of food to get ruined.
Gojo looks back at Raphael who was standing not too far behind. “Raphael… I think it’d be better if I didn’t help.” Raphael rolls his eyes, smiling. “Come on," he reaches out his hand, and Gojo inches away. Raphael leans forward and pulls Gojo on to his feet. “Stop acting so weird. Now is not the time to be lazy.” Raphael pulls Gojo along, and Gojo does little to resist. “I got lazy bones here!” Raphael calls out to the group. Amelie scowls at the sight of Gojo. “You shouldn’t have even bothered." she rolls her eyes and gets back to work. Raphael leaves Gojo with everyone else. “I’m going to try find Denise, Deku and Bakugo around the shore of the island, I’ll report back as soon as possible!”
...
“Ughh…” Saoirse groans. It comes out less like a groan and more like a wheeze. Her throat feels scratchy and tight. She rubs her eyes and feels the stickiness of them after being shut for so long. Her entire body is freezing, but also drenched in sweat. Then, she feels a hand on her shoulder. She can’t see any of Geto’s defining features this time, but she can slightly make out the mumble of his voice. She can barely hear, but she knows it’s him. It has to be.
...
Connor goes over to check on the quarantined. “Hi Geto." He stops. Geto, who is beside Saoirse, looks up at him. “Are you safe to be near us Connor?” Geto asks, his eyes worried for a negative response. “Don’t worry, it’s not transferrable to androids.” Connor says back, little emotion in his voice. Geto just nods, his shoulders relaxing in relief. “Geto.” Connor says, and Geto’s eyes snap back up to look at his brother. “You shouldn’t be near Saoirse. If you’re not infected, then you’re just putting yourself at more risk by staying next to her.” Geto looks into Connor’s eyes, then down at Saoirse.
“She… she’s dying. And I don’t want her final brief moments of consciousness in complete discomfort to be all on her own.” Geto barely manages to get every word out without choking on his words. “Please, Geto…” Connor sighs. But Geto sits firm. He’s stubborn, him and Connor both are. As Geto is looking over Saoirse, Connor looks down and realises the bigger leak in his thirium pump has reopened again. He quickly turns around to try get a jacket to cover himself, making up a quick excuse. “I’ll scan Hannah first, then I’ll come around to you two.” Connor says hurriedly. Connor looks at Geto, finding his behavior odd.
...
Amelie sees Connor rummaging through a pile of clothes near her. She decides to get back to work trying to build a shelter. “Sadhbh, can you get me another piece of string please?” Amelie asks. Sadhbh is talking about plans with Raphael, distracted and not hearing Amelie’s request. Then Amelie hears a cough. Gojo is standing near her, a bundle of string in his hand. “Uhm… here.” he says, handing the string to Amelie. She stands frozen for a moment, before turning her back to Gojo. “I asked for a piece, not the entire stupid bundle you idiot." she snarls. Gojo stares at her. “Geez, sorry. I just wanted to help.” he began to walk away. Amelie spun around, her shoulders tense and her eyes furious.
“HELP? Oh, belieeeeeve me, you helped PLENTY when you ruined all the firewood and damaged Saoirse’s immune system! Not to mention Connor having to use up part of his thirium supply just to warm up Geto. You can’t get extra thirium on a desert island, in case you didn’t know!” Amelie berates Gojo, stomping towards him. She is shorter than him, but stands tall and unintimidated. Gojo rolls his eyes. “Well sorry me and Hannah just wanted to help out! Building a boat was a good plan, and no one else even thought of it!” he grumbles, guilt gnawing away at him, but only his arrogance showing. “The boat COULD’VE been a semi-decent idea, IF YE DIDN’T TRY BUILD IT ON THE WATER!”
Gojo steps backwards, further away from Amelie. “Get away from me!” he spits. Suddenly, Sadhbh calls out. “Amelie and Gojo! Get back and stop arguing, now’s not the time!” Amelie and Gojo trudge over, dragging their feet. “Get back to work, please. And Gojo, stop social distancing from everyone and actually start contributing or something!”
...
Connor couldn’t change his shirt, soaked in blue, but he threw a heavy hoodie over himself to hide it. Then, he noticed it was Geto’s hoodie. He twirled the drawstring absentmindedly around his finger, his eyes feeling so very heavy. He just feels so tired, and wants this all to be over. Then, Sadhbh interrupts his thought process. “Have you scanned the quarantined yet?" she asks. Connor drops the drawstring and shakes his head. “S-sorry, no. I’m about to though.” he runs off. Sadhbh looks at him. Raphael walks up to her as she stands confused. “Is he acting a little strange to you?" she asks Raphael. He shrugs. “A little, but I think he’ll be fine.” Then Sadhbh turns to Raphael, realising that he’s back from the search empty handed. “Could you not find Denise, Deku or Bakugo?" she asks, concerned. “I’ve only searched around half the shore, I’m going the other way now.” Raphael assures her as he sets off.
...
“Hi Hannah, how are you?” Connor asks, approaching her. She looks at the waves. The same waves Gojo was watching just a few moments prior. The blue matching her eyes. “I’m… I feel alright, I think." she shrugs, her eyes sorrowful and glued to the gentle movement of the water. “This doesn’t feel real, ya’know?" she turns to look at Connor, then back at the water. He does a scan of her, keeping his thirium capacity permanently in the corner of his vision as he does so. Then the scan comes back, and he holds his breath for a moment. “So?” Hannah asks, her eyes wishing for something not so bad.
Connor looks down at her, his eyes gloomy. “You’re showing early signs…” he explains. Hannah just sits still despite the sudden news. Connor nervously reaches for the drawstring again. “H-hey! Chin up, there’s a chance we might be able to hold off the worse symptoms until a boat or someone rescues us!” Hannah just shrugs. “My immune system is basically useless without food. There won’t be enough for all of us to have until a boat could arrive, it’s already such a small pile…" she sighs, dejected. Connor solemnly nods, then turns to scan Geto and Saoirse.
...
“G-GUYS!” Deku whines. “Can we PLEASE m-make our w-way back to c-camp!” Denise looks at Bakugo, his face painted with mud and determination. “In all fairness Bakugo, it is dark out now, and we only got close to catching something once…” Denise reaches out and puts her hand on his shoulder. He scowls, knowing she’s right, but not wanting to give up the hunt. “Please, can we go back?" she asks, smiling. Bakugo rolls his eyes. “Well good luck getting out of the woods. We’ve been walking for so long, we’re probably soooo deep in the woods right now.” he laughs, mocking them. “I-I think t-that’s light from o-our fire.” Deku points. All three look, and see an orange glow through the trees, not too far out. Bakugo’s eye twitches as he realises how far they are from the deep parts of the woods.
...
“I-I think t-that’s light from o-our fire.” One of the voices squeaks. Beoupopopo’s ears perk up. Fire? Sign of a camp? Food?! He peeks out from behind the tree he’s hidden behind, noticing the warm glow up ahead. He air-punches, silently cheering. He’s so hungry, practically skin and bones, not to mention the thick layer of mud caked on his fur and the tattered flight attendant uniform merged with his body. He crouches way down to the floor and begins to take the shortest route to the fire.
