DirectExtract privacy policy

DirectExtract is a Chrome extension that extracts ZIP downloads straight into a folder you choose. It runs entirely in your browser. This policy explains what it stores and what it sends.
What DirectExtract reads
When a ZIP download starts, DirectExtract reads the download's address, file name and size to decide whether to offer extraction. If you choose to extract, it reads the ZIP from the site it's downloading from, and only on sites you've allowed it to access. The ZIP's contents are written into the folder you picked and never leave your computer.
What DirectExtract stores on your computer
- Your settings, such as the smallest ZIP size to catch.
- The folder you last extracted into, so it can offer it again.
- A short-lived record of each download it's handling (its address, file name and size) and of the folder an extraction is creating, so it can clean up if something goes wrong. These records are deleted when the extraction ends.
- Your license key, if you bought one, and whether you've used your one free extraction of a larger ZIP.
Your settings and the free-extraction record are kept in Chrome's sync storage. If you've turned on Chrome sync, Google syncs them between your devices along with the rest of your Chrome data. Everything else stays in this browser.
What DirectExtract sends
The only thing DirectExtract sends anywhere is your license key. It goes to Polar (polar.sh), the company that sells the license, when you enter the key and whenever DirectExtract checks the license, so Polar can confirm the key is valid and count how many browsers use it. Purchases happen on Polar's website, and DirectExtract never sees your payment details. Polar's privacy policy is at https://polar.sh/legal/privacy-policy.
DirectExtract has no analytics, ads or tracking. It doesn't collect your browsing history, and it doesn't sell or share data with anyone.
