Mechanical Supervisor

Direct Engineering is now recruiting a time served Mechanical Fitter with supervisory experience to expand are growing pump and gearbox division. The role will be 70% hands on and 30% Supervisory/Management.

The successful candidate must have

    • Experience in food and drink manufacturing plants
    • Assembly/Disassembly and Maintenance of complex rotating machinery experiance
    • Conveyor Manufacture and maintenance experiance
    • Experience in perform all aspects of testing within all test areas which include Hydro, performance,
    • Experience setting up and stripping product off test, efficiently, in line with work instructions.
    • Assist in preparing/updating assembly documentation, programs and tooling.
    • Participate in continuous improvement activities

Applications are welcomed from experienced, Time Served Mechanical fitters with experience of Rotating Machinery.

Key Requirements include:

    • High level of technical /practical competence in rotating equipment, particularly on pumps and Gearboxes.

Direct Engineering is currently recruiting and experienced Structural Draughtsman Lead to join our busy fabrication department. The role will be reporting to the Fabrication operations manager providing detailed drawings for small to medium fabrications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To produce quality detailed arrangement drawings for client approval.
  • Attend in-house meetings (Handover/Progress/Contract review).
  • Liaise with production, site and external suppliers.
  • Co-ordinate all aspects of the design with all relevant team members.
  • Raise all necessary items in line with the project.
  • Carry out site visits
  • Prepare production drawings and material schedules for shop manufacture.
  • Monitor and form progress reports against contract programme.


Significant CAD experience preferably SolidWorks experience in Structural Steel/Fabrication sector.

Ability to monitor and review the as built drawing process

Strong problem solving skills

Excellent communication and people skills

BS EN 1090-2 experience is advantageous

Pipework Supervisor

Direct Engineering is currently looking for a pipework supervisor to provide technical guidance and supervision to the pipework division. The role will also involve a hands on approach to supervising on site squads.

Direct Engineering specialise in hygienic pipework systems within chemical and food process plants but also carry out various types of pipework installation. The ideal candidate will be competent in both carbon and stainless pipework systems and have experience in food and beverage plants.

The position will require the successful candidate to scope, estimate and supervise the delivery of various pipework projects ranging from small one offs to large projects valued at hundreds of thousands of pounds. The role will be hands on.

Role details:

  • Provide technical guidance and supervision to the pipework division.
  • Problem solving
  • Commissioning of installations
  • Ensuring that projects are completed within agreed deadlines and costs whilst meeting contractual requirements to commercial, technical and safety standards
  • Carrying out risk assessments and method statements.
  • Experience and qualifications required
  • Operate at all times in line with ISO9001, ISO14001 and OHSAS 18001 procedures.

Essential Requirements

  • Food and Beverage plants experience.
  • Pipe fitting experience in steel threaded and welded pipe.
  • Skilled in MIG, TIG welding processes.
  • Supervisory and Management Skills
  • Up to date knowledge of PSSR & CDM Regulations.
  • Full, clean driving licence
  • Competent in completing RAMS
  • Experienced or capable of working to high standard of QHSE requirements.
