Dionel worked with the Hunterdon County Division of Park & Recreation in association with the Raritan Headwater Association. Throughout his time in Boy Scouts he have become very passionate about the safety and conservation of our rivers and felt that it was natural to make this the focus of his Eagle Scout project. He is a River Ambassador through the Raritan Headwater Association and had volunteered many community service hours in the effort of stream river cleanup. Dionel built a KIOSK at the South Branch Raritan River just north of corner of Old York Road & Hillsborough Road, Flemington, NJ; Three Bridges, which is one of the most commonly, use access point to the South Branch Raritan River. Due to this most contamination is the results from human land use.
The aim of this project is to enhance appearance and inform the public about “Leave No Trace” to educate or identity personal nature awareness like cleaning your gear/protecting the Raritan River. In addition, a research was completed on all access point for the South/North Branch of the Raritan River (Hunterdon, Morris, & Somerset Counties). In this research it included all coordinates, description of the area, pictures, and any important information that will be helpful for future use. He also spoke to local regarding the area usage. This information was given to the Hunterdon County Parks & Recreation and to the Raritan Headwater Association. An interactive Map was created. One was display for the Three Bridges KIOSK and the others were for Raritan Headwater use for their future research, maintenance, and updates.
Who Benefit: The community who uses the access point of Three Bridges will benefit from the KIOSK. They can be informed about the environment and map location. The Hunterdon County division of Park & Recreation in association with the Raritan Headwater Association have the ability to display awareness of "Leave No Trace" protecting and preserving the river while still enjoying outdoor activity and avoiding major impact to the environment. the Hunterdon County Park & Recreation can also post park hours, safety, and any other essential information. Other areas of access points are in need of maintenance as well therefore, the Stanton Station section sign and KIOS at Assiscong March was painted to bring vitality and enhancement to the area.
