CompyCraft is an English YouTuber and creator of Minecraft official DLCs, mostly based around the subject of dinosaurs and Paleontology. Originally a teenage hobbyist indie developer, CompyCraft is now recognized as an Official Minecraft Partner and works with naturalist and TV presenter Nigel Marven.
After rebranding to CompyCraft, a Minecraft addon/modpack was released for Christmas 2019, titled "Christmas Presents". This addon lead to CompyCraft changing his channel from general gaming to focusing specifically on Minecraft modded content.
On December 20th, CompyCraft premiered a trailer for a dinosaur themed DLC named "Paleocraft". This video spearheaded his rise in popularity from under 50 subscribers to over 1000 in around a month. CompyCraft went on to dominate the newly forming Minecraft Dinosaur niche, with consistently high views for the niche sustaining a channel growth to around 5000 subscribers over the COVID-19 lockdown of 2020.
CompyCraft continued uploading weekly species profiles on a Friday. In the summer of 2020, as the COVID Pandemic hit, CompyCraft diversified into making a range of videos, although all were still based around Minecraft Dinosaurs. These videos included the building of a Minecraft Jurassic World, a dinosaur battle arena, and a survival series that featured creatures from the DLC. It was in this "Dinosaur Survival" that CompyCraft featured a friend of his, known to many of his fanbase as "Red Hair Man", this character was well known for screaming at the top of his voice at everything that happened in his videos.
CompyCraft also collaborated with another Minecraft YouTuber, the then largest channel in the Minecraft Dinosaur niche "Smithy MC" featuring a Minecraft world created by Smithy MC in a tour series which also featured animals from the Paleocraft DLC.
Shortly after this, CompyCraft teamed up with Minecraft's Waypoint Studios to publish content to the in-game Minecraft store. CompyCraft released two packs in his time with Waypoint Studios; "Australian Adventure" and "Jungle Quest".
As Autumn 2020 arrived, CompyCraft released a video featuring an extinct prehistoric crocodile "Sarcosuchus" which led to a sudden surge of viewers breaking 100k views within a month. During this time, CompyCraft was also onboarded as an Official Minecraft Partner, allowing him to release DLCs officially as CompyCraft.
Over the last months of 2020 and early 2021, CompyCraft encountered barriers with the production of Paleocraft. These included a Minecraft update that deleted the addon and incomplete backups, and issues with the review by Microsoft.
Paleocraft was finally confirmed to release on the 23rd March 2021. In the weeks building up to the release, CompyCraft expectedly encountered another surge of viewership. Upon release, other YouTubers covered the DLC, these included TheGamingBeaver, BestInSlot, TheAtlanticCraft, Smithy MC, and Swrve among others.
In summer of 2021, "The Giant Dinosaur Adventure" was revealed, a new DLC that aimed to be Paleontologically accurate and would feature Nigel Marven, a TV presenter known for wildlife and dinosaur shows including the Walking With Dinosaurs spin-offs The Giant Claw and Land of Giants, the latter being based in the same time period and location as The Giant Dinosaur Adventure.
The development of The Giant Dinosaur Adventure was stalled when CompyCraft was hit by a storm as well as attending college which made his life too busy to properly work on Minecraft. The DLC did release in September 2022, garnering support from Nigel Marven's audience and the remaining audience of CompyCraft after taking some time off YouTube. The release was however followed by more breaks from YouTube for unknown reasons.
CompyCraft returned in March 2023 to announce a new DLC, once again featuring Nigel Marven, "CLAWS". This DLC was based around the same time period and location as Nigel Marven's other Walking With Dinosaurs spinoff "The Giant Claw". After being covered by YouTubers such as BestInSlot and recognised by TheGamingBeaver, the cinematic reveal trailer garnered another surge of support for CompyCraft, activity levels appeared to be breaking that of Paleocraft's release and only one video had been revealed.
The support was not to last however, as CompyCraft did not upload another video relating to CLAWS until September 2023. It was said that the lack of uploads were due to CompyCraft's newly formed team falling apart after some members did not do the work that they had been contracted to do.
