Dinefwr bowls was officially opened on December 14th, 1994. It was opened by the Honourable Mayor J Davies in an opening ceremony which was held at the stadium.
The first president of the club was Mr Alf England who's wife Nesta was also a great lady bowler. The stadium was built with no expense spared using bricks and white oak boards; the club was owned by Dinefwr borough council before being passed onto Carmarthenshire County Council who still own the building to this day and who lease the building to our current management. The Bryn room, which is hired out for functions, was named after the late Councillor Bryn Williams .
The junior section of the club was started up by Sam Williams . Sam, who also played for Cwmamman outdoors, was a keen advocate for junior bowls, and the very junior sessions held on a Saturday morning all started from Sam's ideas.
Our stadium has held a number of events including county games, international trials, international games between England and Wales and even the Welsh Champions of Champions.
Our bowls club was the first to devise a digital scoreboard, which was adopted nationally for some time.
We have had several internationals at our club including Karen Davies (who is now our Secretary), Gareth Thomas, Nick Bithray, Pam Owen, Maureen Williams, Ross Davies, Nicola Thomas, Shannon Davies, Seren Jones and Ffion Jones, Scott Williams, Sam Brown, Rhys Jones, Jessica Rees, Adrian Price, Danny Price, Bethan Jones.
We are very fortunate at Dinefwr to have many wonderful volunteers at the stadium, and a big thank you goes out to all who have helped maintain this wonderful facility through the years.
