Dilton Marsh Ex-Services Social Club was opened by Lieutenant Colonel G.M. Atkinson on 14th February 1948.
At the end of the 2nd World War, a group of ex Servicemen and Home Guards from the village formed a committee to set up the club.
The land on which the club is built was donated by Mr Shepherd who lived in Petticoat Lane and was leader of the Home Guards during the war. A Nissen Hut from the American transit camp at Hisomley was donated and the committee raised money to build the foundations on which to erect it. It was transported in pieces from Hisomley to Dilton Marsh on tractors, carts etc.
Early activities included table tennis, snooker and skittles, and there were regular social events such as dances and an annual flower show. The flower show was well attended and very competitive event with flower, vegetables and all sorts of handicraft on display, including a men's cake competition!
There have been many changes over the years, but the most significant was the building of a new outer skin during the early 1990's. The existing Nissen Hut remained as the internal structure for several years afterwards, this was eventually removed and to create the space as it is today.
During the lockdown the inside of the club has had a major refurbishment of all areas, including shutters being added to the bar to allow more flexible use of the space and a window for ventilation and natural light.
