Planning to Travel Abroad? Here’s What Local Officials Need to Know
Traveling abroad - whether for official meetings, training, or personal reasons, requires proper clearance for all local government officials and employees. The DILG reminds everyone to secure a Foreign Travel Authority (FTA) before leaving the country.
Why?
The FTA ensures that officials remain accountable while traveling, and that their absence does not affect local governance and public service delivery. The good news: Getting an FTA is straightforward if you know the steps and have the right forms ready.
Step 1 : Prepare Your Travel Request
Draft a Letter of Request with:
Purpose of travel
Destination(s) and dates
Official who will cover your duties while away
Tip: Make it concise and clear — this helps speed up approval.
Step 2 : Complete the Required Documents. Here are the key documents you need.
Step 3 : Submit Your Application Online
Use the FTA Online System to submit your request and attached forms.
Submit at least 7 working days before departure to avoid delays.
Step 4 : Await Approval
Normally, your FTA is approved by the DILG Regional or Central Office.
Important: During disasters or emergencies, all foreign travel requests must be approved by the SILG.
Step 5 : Carry Your Approved FTA
Present the approved FTA at the airport. It is your official clearance to travel abroad.
