In late 2025, we used Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) to survey the land next to Castle Hill. This was once part of the castle structure before the Georgians flattened the ground to create parkland. In the 1970s, the ground was further changed when a new carpark was built. The medieval materials are about 2 metres under the surface.
Can you spot any potential shapes that might be buildings or ditches?
The team will analyse the data and use it as part of the wider research investigating the site!

Project Director Emily Wapshott and Archaeology Co-Lead Dr Aisling Tierney made significant contributions to the recent heritage regeneration strategy for Great Torrington. Written contributions focused on cultural aspects, including cultural organisations and physical assets. Read the report here.
The document was compiled by consultants, Hardisty Jones Associates, who made final editing decisions. The expert consultation and contributions of Wapshott and Tierney were provided free of charge.
