As the 2026 legislative session begins we are demanding that our state leadership pass DND early in the session, along with other crucial immigrant rights legislation like New York For All.

The Dignity Not Detention Act gets New York State out of the business of ICE detention. DND will prevent state and local government entities, like jails, hospitals, or schools, from contracting with ICE to cage immigrants and end contracts that currently exist.  

I appreciate that the Governor spoke out against ICE’s abuse of power during her State of the State address. However, if she truly wants to protect New Yorkers, she needs to go beyond admonishing ICE and actually work to prevent them from coming to our communities to violently kidnap and detain our neighbors. Passing DND is a crucial first step. 

Can we count on Governor Hochul to push for the legislature to pass DND immediately this legislative session? Will Governor Hochul commit to signing into law DND?
