18 guidelines for designing technology that aligns with people's digital wellbeing
A set of 18 design guidelines to (re)align technology with people’s digital wellbeing. The guidelines have been extracted through a systematic literature review on the computing and HCI literature of current work around the digital wellbeing topic, and they have been validated through an exploratory analysis of contemporary digital services and a user study with 81 participants. we hope the guidelines will facilitate future collaborations between the HCI community, tech companies, and event policymakers to promote new design processes that carefully analyze and consider the impact of technology use on people’s digital wellbeing.
Use the guidelines to design novel digital services or evaluate existing ones in terms of digital wellbeing. The Guidelines Library describes the 18 guidelines and presents application and violation examples to help designers and researchers become familiar with the guidelines.
